Hopefully this will clear up any confusion. :D The "Original" Gryphon programmer (Colored backlight, monochrome display) can be used as both a FICM programmer and a standard ECM/TCM programmer, just not at the same time. Through the magic of the internet, we can set up downloads to allow the device to program an ECM with a modified tune and then set it run as a FICM programmer, or vice versa. This process is NOT automatic and requires that I setup the specific downloads, so it's not something that a customer will be able to perform at their discretion. In many cases, customer will use the Gryphon to introduce either a modified strategy or Rollback strategy into the ECM/TCM and then once completed we'll set the device to function as a normal FICM programmer from that point on. We can also do the reverse, reflashing the FICM with the desired strategy and then resetting the device to a standard ECM/TCM programmer. As a standard programmer, the device can hold up to 4 standard/custom ECM/TCM tunes and will work on only 1 vehicle. As a FICM programmer, the device holds up to 12 standard/custom tunes with licensing available for multiple vehicles. As for the CS/CTS programmer (Full color display), these DO NOT have the capability to function as a FICM programmer. The hardware supports it, but the firmware doesn't. We do not have any access to modify the firmware and Edge has no plans to allow us that access, so I cannot add to or modify the functionality of the device like I can on the original Gryphon programmer. To reduce confusion and to help speed the ordering processes, these devices are generally limited to 4 tunes. However, there is no actual physical limitation to the number of tunes we can load on these devices and have had as many as 20 different tunes on a single device. There are certain reasons why this is generally not a practical scenario, but that is outside the scope of this discussion. One advantage with the CS/CTS is the capability to easily expand the available PIDs for monitoring with a simple download. With our custom files, we offer additional PIDs that don't come on the original device and can even take requests for other PIDs on a case by case basis. As was mentioned, the biggest drawback to using either Gryphon platform for programming is that I am currently the ONLY person that offers custom tuning for them while the SCT has considerably more options for tuning. Edge has discussed creating a more flexible architecture that will allow other dealers to be able to create custom tunes for the CS/CTS devices, but that is still going to be some time away with no definite date as to when. Once it happens, it will really open up the possibilities for these devices. I hope this helps. Let me know if there are any more questions. Take care.
