Yes there is a big difference between a hobbyist or custom builder working and your dealer mech ect. AS a hobbyist one I have all the time I choose to allocate toward it. Two its mine so I am going to be more anal about it if that is how I so choose. I will say a guy that does this day in and out also has a experts feel for what is good and what is not as far as putting together etc... The hobbyist maybe, maybe not. IMO why chance it. I think quite a bit of detail goes into setting up tq specs etc..SO if you are using the same fasteners quality etc and parts IMO it seems the best to follow the specs if you can. Yes sometimes we learn thru experience that something needs more or less or that anti-seize is best used here or there. But beyond that following specs is the safe bet IMHO. Look at all the ARP head studs that were ruined or broken because people thought more is better and took them to 135-145 when they were specifically meant to go to 125. They then got a rep for only being good for one or two tq. In actuality they could be rtq many times if you actually followed the procedures and TQ amounts. Anyways that's my opinion from my experience which is far less than a number of guys on here when it comes to the 7.3. So take it for what its worth with that in mind......
