Shutting off

My dad has an 00 F250 Extended cab that he says he can be sitting at a red light and it goes to running a little rough and will turn off. Says its hard to start once that happens. He has an SCT tuner and 4" exhaust. Other than that, its pretty much stock. Says it will start blowing greyish smoke and smell like diesel. I havent seen it I am just going off of his word. Any ideas? I will try to fill in as soon as I have more info

Mines been doin same thing but.it shuts off while driving mostly down hill

CPS usually just dies and will not restart for awhile, but it can also just
act funky like above. They are cheap and easy to replace, so they can be
a place to start. IPR is much more expensive and can be tough to get to, but
the are known to cause problems like this.

Can I monitor the IPR and ICP with the sct he has? I seen it once and it looks like an X3, im not sure what models are for the 7.3

Mine i havw to turn my chip to 6 and depress gas pedal to get it to restart most of the time

The CPS can cause all kinds of stuff and its a super cheap and easy thing to replace. $25 and 5min is all we are talking here so its good to do just to rule it out. Save your old CPS in case that is not what it is and keep it in the glove box as a spare.

It can cause stalling, surging power, hard hot starts and no starts, bad idle Just about anything that has to do with the engine running. If you think about it since the injection is based off what it reports it makes sense.
