South Dakota Registration - Avoiding the yearly Emissions Test

For those of us who won't pass, barely pass or just don't care to bother anymore with having your truck romped on for a yearly emissions tests.

I've heard rumors about Clay County South Dakota and a few businesses such as:

...which assist you registering your vehicle there. Has anyone done this? Specifically people living in say CA or CO? Not sure if this is the right area to post. But couldn't find anywhere else / anywhere better.

Depends on where you live, I suppose, but here in norcal the cops give you a hard time for out of state of plates. Never heard of any getting a ticket, though. There's counties in California that don't require smog, so a lot of people just register in those counties. Then you still have your state tags.

My buddy here in CT has both his truck and car registered in Montana for that exact purpose. Going on 2 years now I think with no issues at all. Probably wouldn't want to do it if you have dick neighbors that would call the authorities to report you for not paying taxes in your town. Also should try not to get pulled over a ton, thereby giving cops opportunity to ask questions.
