I purchased an 08 F350 with blown turbo's and have since added a 72mm atmo and 58mm HP. I also did a turbo back 5" exhaust and EGR delete while I was in there. Now here comes my question. After purchasing my Spartan tuner and receiving the instructions it says you have to download the stock tune with all your stock components before loading any of their tunes. Is this absolutely necessary? I have no intentions of ever running this truck stock again. Do all the aftermarket tuner manufactures require this? The truck would hardly run when I bought it and I didn’t have the tuner purchased prior to starting this project. What should I do now? How do I get around this?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

They just say that so if there is an issue downloading or the tune doesn't write, you aren't dead in the water if you need to return to an OEM flash to drive the truck

I have also heard of people needing to reload their stock tune when the download messes up? Is this true? Can I just get a stick tune from someone else to load if this happens?

That's what I wanted to hear but the guy at Spartan said it all had to be hooked up. He said it may work on my 6.4 but no guarantees. He also said don't even try to do it on a 6.7 without your stock parts on the truck. He said the download looks for reading from your stock sensors. Hopefully all turns out well.
