Starter on 01

Every once in a while I am getting all motor and no bendix dump. I keep trying and finally it starts. No grinding, starter sounds fine. I have not pulled the starter on one and was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Can it be pulled cleaned up lubed appropriately or is it the beginning of the end for the starter?

Sounds like the brushes/contacts might be shot on the starter.

Brushes are in the motor. That's what is making it turn. If the motor is turning. Then the brushes are doing there job. Bendix is probably sticking. I'd pull it and take it to a rebuilder. I had one sticking in and not kicking out all the time.
