[QUOTE="cowwboy, post: 934617, member: 11713"] 1ohm 2ohm 8ohm etc does not effect sound quality. Its is just the impedance (resistance) of the voice coil. Matching it to a amplifier correctly is what's important. For a boat I would get as high of quality class d or class g/h amplifier that matches the impedance of your driver(sub). Personally I like to have an amp that is larger then needed so you have headroom. Think of it this way. Do you buy a truck with the towing capacity exactly matching your boat? Or do you get a nice superduty that easily pulls it and has tons of power on tap and doesn't struggle. Now when doing this you need to be cautious when you set your gains or have a professional do it. So your not driving the sub into its mechanical limits. Also the impedance of a sub alone isn't the end result impedance. I know this may go over your head but a box and its instilation will affect it. For example, my sub is wired to 1 ohm (quad 4ohm coils) yet at across the curve it was anywhere from 6.9-1.6 ohm. Here is a rough chart from where I played with a frequency generator and a amp and voltage meter. Yes I was bored one day waiting on friends to show up to go on a lake road trip.
