I've had the truck a few months and used 4wd and 4 low 3 times in the same spot for a few minutes at a time and this seems to happen everytime.

I just hooked up to the trailer, put it in 4 low (saw the 4 low light and heard the clunk) from 4 high. Pulled forward to get straight, backed up then put it in park to check something. Came back put it in drive gave it some throttle and noticed it was in 4 high, yet the dash switch was still set to 4 low. The 4 low indicator light was out too at this point. I put the trans in neutral set the t-case back to 2wd then went back to 4 low and it was fine till I was done a minute later.

Is something wrong or does it always come out of 4 low when put into park?

Sounds like a shift fork is worn or broken, unless the motor isn't operating fully. I've had them stick before, but usually stuck in 4 lo.
Pull the actuator, and check to see if it has full travel, and check the t case to make sure the shaft has full travel.
