Most of the Ford diesel engines I have see dusted from failed systems was usually caused by installer error, customers not maintaining filters or Filters rubbing on engine components chafing holes in them. It doesn't take long for a damaged air filter to kill the rings on a fresh engine when living in the desert. I have had 4 6.7L engines come in with damaged turbo's and 1 with internal engine wear. Turbo ones just ended up with new turbo, clean tubes replace tube seals and charge air cooler replacement.
