6.4s with a tune are some of the funnest things to drive, Hook it to a trailer and i think my bone stock 6.7 does better.

Im sure getting rid of the regen helps but i see most of the people saying they love there 6.4 havent got very far over 100k miles, wait till 120k... lmao

LOL Maybe when your 6.7 is running

This is only my opinion and I have a built 6.4L which I love and will not sell probably ever. But if I knew what I know now and was looking for a second truck I'd be looking for one of the newer 6.7L Powerstrokes. That's just me though.

I would. Just do the basics and delete it and not dog the piss out of it 24/7 and you should be fine. And keep the water seperate drained frequently.

:whs: The only problem is the pistons....they are so hit and miss...mostly miss on a tuner only truck. And like Morgan said, I probably wouldn't want it to be my only vehicle.

i guess its just weird who has issues, and how people classify "beating" on it and not. but im on my third motor. and i honestly dont run it that hard imo. this last motor was trashed, and 100% random. no signs, no symtoms. i lost a piston, bent a rod, junked a block, crank, all kinds of stuff. screw 6.4s LOL

When did you kill the second motor. I remember your original cracked piston but wasn't aware of the second one.

Eric. What's an estimated price if someone like me had to get the motor replaced, not building it just stock?
I hear 10k thrown around a lot!! That's got to be built a little right?
All this talk has really got me thinking......

too many determining factors. your block and what state the cylinders are in will dictate a lot. but if you're just gonna swap a well sourced longblock and not have the down time, easy 10k with everything done right ( good heads, headstuds, pushrods, cam, valve springs, valve seals, , lifters, rocker arms , hd pistons ) and labor. that way you'll have your current stuff to sell which will help offset cost. definitely not an easy answer, as most the answers aren't known until your motor is out.

if your heads are good, and your block is good and doesn't need machining, yes that's a built top end. my buddy needed a new crank, rods, full rebuild, heads were fine did everything bigrpower said, and he paid right around 10k drop the drop truck running fugged up picked it up with the motor rebuilt stronger.

Thanks for the info.
I'm almost speechless lol.
If that were to happen I would be screwed.
I daily drive it, which sounds like a no no for longevity .
I'm just shocked by the real wold evidence on the lack of reliability.

how do you think my camper got to the lake this weekend? 120 in parts, how much did you put on yo credit card to get your pile fixed? LOL

Lol little different scenario since mines not stock... BUT all I'm getting at is that you had better luck with your 6.4 when you had one!

Remember the selection bias you are getting from this forum (or others). Pretty much no one on PSA drives a stock truck. Many on here at least dyno their trucks if not sled pull and/or take it to the track, plus forums typically are a place where problems are posted. All makes and models have flaws...some more than others. All of them have horror stories (one problem after another) and ones that seem to be built like a brick sh#thouse). Some are cheaper to work on or fix than others. In my way of looking at, if you can't do without it (i.e. don't have a back up vehicle) or you can't afford to fix it if there is a catastrophic failure, you should probably own a cheaper vehicle or one with a warranty.

honestly daily driving it helps with reliability....and to be honest the trucks are reliable....many many many many, companies run 6.4's for landscaping and construction and many guys run them to plow with and tow their 5th wheel campers across the country with their wife and kids, and put a lot of miles on them 100% stock with little to no issues. most common i'd say is the radiator, maybe belt tensioner, a water pump...minor issues for the most part. A lot of guys on the Maserati forums report reliability issues, and then when asked how much they drive their cars they say maybe 20 miles a week max, then the guys driving them 200-300 miles a week see very little issues because they need to be driven....parts that get used seldom just break. Things break, seize up from sitting not from being over used...
