Damn...sorry I used a stupid word...I mean chit, it was meant as a fuggin joke. My 6yr old says it sometimes...no clue who he learned it from, don't really care...it gets a laugh out of him, so I don't give a *** how it sounds or who thinks it's stupid or dumb.

Ok, moving on...
I have a priming tool already to prime the pump.

Spark plugs.... I'm going to get a set tomorrow. Should I get a set for a 93 model (what the engine is), or a set for a 77? Older set calls for .044" gap, newer one (for a 93) calls for .054" gap. Not sure which one to go with, or how much it'll even matter.

Well, long tubes are a no go. Notched the frame, got it to slide down in there, but then it hit the crossmember (where back half of the suspension attaches). I'm not cutting on that cross member. I dented the collector some which helped, but for it to bolt up I would have needed to damn near dent it half way flat. Soooooo...out they came and in went the shorties that I have. Not what I wanted but it's not the end of the world.

It's getting close. Intended on firing it this weekend, but I don't think that's happening. I need to do some yard work tomorrow if it's not raining, so I might not even fool with the truck at all.

well ****.. make a set of fender well exit headers..

spark plug gap is different for carb and efi applications.. so go with the 77 model year spec.. also, do yourself a favor and get ford racing plugs...

what kind of ignition system does it have? oem or aftermarket like a msd?

You did rotate the engine to make sure it spins freely right? Just checking.

Definitely use the 77 plug gap. The older ignition systems didn't produce as much voltage as the newer ignition systems. So it needs a smaller gap to jump .

Ok, so I jumped the gun and bought ones for the 93 (.054 gap). Best I can tell, early and late plugs are the same size, same length, ect. So can I just close the gap up on these to .044", or is the later model plug a different heat range or something?

Should just be able to regap them. Never heard of anyone buying the wrong plugs other than needing to check the gap before installing as long as they're for that motor.

Yes, it's been spun several times (lining up TC bolts, putting torque on each rocker, ect). She's good to go.

I'll just close the gaps up then and rock on.

I'm doing -6an line from the pump to the carb...well to the carb feed line that came with the carb. Forgot to order a fitting to attach my AN line to that inverted flare. Needed to order some new exhaust parts anyways, since I had to change my routing now that I'm using the shorties and not the longtubes. Will get that ordered tomorrow, so maybe next weekend I'll make some sound with it. I have a few more things to reinstall under the hood, but I should be able to wrap those up in a few hours.

Just a heads up. We used to have issues when running headers getting the starters hot and ruining them. We ended up wrapping the starter in heat wrap and never had any issues after that.

Yeah i had this happen to my camaro all the time. Luckily it was a Kragen, at the time, starter and had lifetime warranty. I was in about every month with a burned up starter. Never thought to wrap it though. I was 16 and fully retarded at the time. Not that much has changed though... LOL. Guess i am older.

I ran long tubes on my old 351w Bronco years ago and never had any issue like that. Not saying I won't...just making a statement. Hopefully these shorties will keep the heat off them somewhat....they don't sit much lower than the stock manifolds anyways. I have a spare starter, so if it happens, I'll be sure to wrap it though. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a pair of these out in the shop from a project years back than I'm going to try running on it. Not sure how much they will tone the sound down though. I like my stuff loud, but I'd still like to be able to think while driving, or listen to the radio, or not make my kids ears bleed. Might just tack them on for starters, so if they are still too loud I can replace them with a chambered muffler.

I guess I missed that post. Stock ignition for the most part. Has a MSD cap and Blaster II coil, and Ford Racing plug wires, but distributor and ignition module are both stock parts (both are new however, that's why I'm staying with those for the time being)

Pulled the plugs this evening to check gaps....all are at .044". So I'm assuming all 5.0 plugs come set there and you adjust according to year or something. Crazy part is plugs for a 77 and the ones for the 93 had different part numbers. Look to be the same exact plug though.

Worked on it maybe an hour or so this evening. Got radiator/shroud/fan back in, and front accessories tightened up. Dropped the distributor in to make sure I have my initial timing set to crank it. Carb is on, linkage attached. Waiting on the fitting I forgot so I can attach the fuel line. Engine wise, I think all that's left is valve covers, fuel line, and coolant. And exhaust...need to fab up the exhaust. At least back to the mufflers before I try to crank it. So ready to hear this thing.
