Well I was driving down the highway last Friday following my girlfriends father to help him load hay. I was cruising along probably 65-70 mph and started to feel a small vibration every couple of seconds. I backed off to about 40 mph and it went away. Then when I was speeding back up to 65 mph the truck started to shutter so bad that I hit my head on the roof. I pulled off as quick as I could and jumped out to find out what was causing it. I couldn't see anything visibly underneath my truck, so after pondering a moment I popped the hood to take a look and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. So at that point I was very confused so I tried to get back on the highway, but when I hit about 15 mph the shuttering came back. So I pulled off and killed it, and loaded it up on my girlfriends fathers trailer. I looked it over as best I could underneath the truck once it was loaded up and still couldn't see anything except my whole rear axle was covered in oil. We were in a bit of a time crunch so we had to drop it off in a parking lot to go get the hay. My girlfriend stayed with the truck and waited for the flatbed wrecker to get there. So fast forward about two hours. I get a call that my truck is fubar. And there are pieces of it all over the highway. At this point I am beyond pissed and very confused. So my girlfriend sends me these....

Edit: forgot to add that the tow truck driver loaded it ass end first. And that they was a very loud noise before parts started falling off. My girlfriend said it was so loud she thought that my truck fell off of the flatbed.

Holy chit! You didn't see any of that mess when you were looking at the truck on the side of the road? Or when you put it on the trailer? That sucks man lol

Yea that's because it wasn't like that when I was looking underneath it... That was all when it was on the wrecker on the way back to my apartment.

If it was stationary on a flatbed...how does the transfer case shatter, and get parts all over the road?

Wonder if they drug it up on the flatbed in park and the transfer case blew apart then?

I think the transfer case was the culprit the whole time or the guy had a strap over the front drive shaft for some retarded reason and the strap got under the tow trucks tires going down the road.

That's a thought... I'm just baffled at how quickly it escalated from a shutter to this.

it would take a sh!tload more force than that to blow up a transfer case

This.

Could your GF give you any other info? The whole situation sucks, sorry to see this.

She told me that he loaded it up back end first which I thought was odd, because when we dropped it off I made it very easy to load it from the front. She didn't say anything about his tie down spots, and couldn't recall when I asked her. She said there was a very loud noise going down the road and sparks all over the road behind the flatbed. And that my truck is fubar... Haha

Update:

just got off the phone with my GF and a lot of new information has come about... First off I called 4 different towing companies and all of there flatbeds were busy and I had to leave. My girlfriends said she called a couple places and had the same result, she also contacted my father and he called a nationwide towing service. And now I know that it was NOT a flatbed it was in fact a regular tow truck. So now I am livid, because I had asked her if he told her to put the truck in neutral or if he did and she said he did not...

even if it was towed with the front tires on the ground and you were in 4wd and the hubs locked i dont see how it being in park makes a difference unless im missing something

It should have just free spun in the tcase even if the hubs were locked. If the rear tires made contact with the road at high speed it could have maybe caused some transmission and t case damage. Maybe something was coming apart in the t case and finished letting go while in tow...that sucks for sure man.

That's what I was thinking. T case sounds like the root cause first off
