Turbo removal

So I'm either blind or just useless when it comes to searching. I can't find any good info for removing the turbos cab on. Just looking for some tips, tricks, time saving ideas. I just don't want to spend 2 hours trying to find one bolt that you can't even see, ect.

I was going to call my dealer tomorrow to find out if they have a turbo installation kit. gaskets, seals, o rings, ect. Anything else I should get while I'm at it. My turbos have only been on the motor for 4k so I'm not expecting any broken bolts, ect.

Negative. I took the stock turbos off one time and never put them back on.

Its pretty straight forward
I will recommend a good assortment off 10mm 6 point sockets
Snap on sells a special turbo removal socket as well. I found that the snap on impact 10mm wobble works well. You also need a big Ass breaker bar for the turbo hold downs and a high quality 15mm 6 point socket because they must have someone like shone torquing the bolts down

I should be good on tools. I got the better part of a Snap-on truck in my garage...:doh:

I am use to working on bigger trucks, so I know the basics. Actually getting to be a pro at pulling the turbos on our C15. Seems it likes to shear off the turbo flange/ manifold studs every 60-70k or so...

Common for that engine for some reason.

Be sure you have the long 1/2 inch snap on ratchet... I think it's 24 long or something maybe longer but that's about the only thing long enough. The egr pipe is also fun. With the turbos in

ford makes a turbo removal kit, its like a lifting lug and stuff. i took mine out on a 550 with cab on and re instaled them. if you re install them get new oil drain seals and turbo gasket ect..

Ok. This whole cab on turbo removal is for the most part a piece of cake. But. How in the Hell do you get a wrench, socket, swivel, swivel socket, wobbly extension or anything else on the two bottom, middle up pipe bolts? The only thing I can get on it is a wrench with no room to move it. Is it possible to pull the cab bolts and lift if a few inches without disconnecting everything?

3/8 ratchet and the right extension/socket combo. I think I used a 6" extension with short socket or a short with deep well. You dont need a swivel. Any other questions let me or whitemonster now. Weve done it a few times.

That's my issue. I can get a 3/8 swivel on it, but break the swivel. I can get a 4" extension with a deep socket on it. But it leaves the ratchet against the firewall with no where to move it. I got the top 4 off with no issues at all. Running out of ideas. Going to go grab a long 3/8 swivel head ratchet and give it one more shot.

im pretty sure you can. some blocks and bottle jacks would do the trick

Got them all out tonight. All it took was the right tool and about 20 mins... Snap-on has a bent 10mm 12mm combo wrench made for 6.4 turbo removal. Did the driver side up pipe bolts first. Then had to remove the up pipe to gain access for the passengers side. With any luck, I will have time sunday to put everything back together.
