How loud is a full exhaust on the 6.4?

I'd love to get a full exhaust and tune for my truck but I'm a bit worried about yelling to my passenger driving down the road and having to turn my truck off a drive thru. I guess I'm getting old but I like being able to drive down the road in stock form and have it relatively quiet inside the cab.

Its not bad at all in the cab. I have a downpipe and full 5" with no muffler and it isnt bad at all. Very quiet at highway speeds as well.

They are extremely quiet if you have ever driven any other older Ford, any Dodge or any piped D-max. Don't be worried, a 4" pipe will not cause any "issues" noise related in the cab. You could add a muffler if you'd like too. A 5" will be a bit deeper and louder but still nothing compared to older trucks.

Edit: Tree'd by Madman.. and I can agree they are quiet will cruising too.. tire noise is way more of a concern than exhaust

How significant are the performance gains of a 5 over a 4?

If by full exhaust you mean DPF delete/straight pipe its not loud at all. It may be a little more noticeable in a truck with a rubber floor, but still not loud by any stretch.
You will be able to hear your passsenger, talk on the phone, and go through the drive thru with out any problems.

You dont HAVE to take all the stock stuff off the truck if you just want to run the tuner.

The compound turbos keep it quite. My mudgrapplers where way louder then my exhaust going down the highway. Even at WOT.

Agreed with Eric, the 6.4 gives you more of a quiet exhaust with the twins untill you get on it, my 6 leaker was louder all around than my 6.4 is

Oh god brings back horrible memories of the headaches I would get driving down the highway with my mud grapplers. :fustrate:

As stated before, 6.4s are very quiet, definitely engine noise wise, I never shut my truck off in a drive thru. Although I wish my truck made the amount of noise a 6.0 does WOT sometimes :p.

Thanks for the replies. One last question that goes along with my pansy old man complex. I want the power but I also don't want to smoke out an intersection. I commute in a HEAVY traffic area in a bigger city with stop and go traffic. I can't choke everyone out every time I leave from a standing stop. Any suggestions?

Banks Powahh LOL

On a more serious note, depends on how much power you're looking for. There's excellent tuning out there for good power and little to no soot. However, a WOT punch from dead stop, almost all power tuning is going to give smoke.

But even more serious, for heavy traffic and good power, banks would be the way to go. Not preferred by many, but it's shift on the fly and zero smoke...even at a WOT dig?.edited..or H&S..I'd prefer the banks monitor though..heck of a lot bigger and nicer than the mini max..almost gotta have a magnifying glass to see that thing, if that's what she said..

compared to a 5" on a 6.0, its pretty darn quiet.

A 5" on a 6.4ltr compared to a 4" on a 6/0 is still pretty quite. No companison at all. I actually started a thread a while back asking why was the 6.4ltr so quite, even with a full exhaust. The response was, with the compounds it is, but if you put a single on, it is loud like the 6.0ltr. Couple of guys even posted some vids with singles, and they are loud.
