Lools like my head gaskets have finally gave out. There is coolant all over my hood. Looks like Unlimited diesel is gonna give it some love. I have to say though the factory gaskets lasted 20000 miles with 64 drag strip passes and pulled 12 times and a lot of playin around.

Also I may have the money for either a ported intake manifold or manifolds and up pipes what would be the best to do first?

Do the manifolds and up pipes if you can only afford 1 of them. You'll be better off taken care of the known problem areas.

I would say it depends on when and how far you plan to build the truck....if you are going to a bigger charger in the not so distant future, you will probably need a WG...if you do the exh manny and up pipes now, you will have to back into the up pipes if you do a WG. I admit I might have a biases because I am regretting not doing a WG while I was in there. I did the 71, ported intake, and 6.0 exh manny with up pipes all at the same time so I don't know how each on by itself affected my truck's performance.

With that being said, unless you think it will be within next 6-12 months, I would probably lean toward the exh manny/up pipes...like someone said earlier, the up pipes are known to fail which seems to be hit and miss. They should help you run a little cooler and with all of the piston issues as of recently, I think trying to run as cool as possible is a plus. Of course, a ported intake manny should at least theoretically reduce the risk of cracking the rear pistons...but it seems like the back 2 aren't the only ones failing.

with up-pipes with the egr provision, you could put a wg on later, in the egr location.

underneath instead of up top, and simply run a short run of pipe from that gate, under the trans, over to the exhaust if you didn't want to dump into the atmosphere.

there's been talk of that location not being ideal because of road grime, but if you made some sort of a simple splash guard....

has there been any real issues with it located there?

the issues i have read about, have been dumping to the atmosphere, and grime getting into the gate from the exhaust port.

just wondering.....

That is another good point...the splash gaurd. I ended up lucking into a used one that will plumb into the up pipes. One of my concerns about the EGR location was salted roads which is why I didn't go that route (and the ZF6 has a larger housing but the OP wont have to worry about that), but if you made a splash gaurd, you probably would be fine. Of course even if the pipe going into the DP rusts, it wouldn't be too bad to weld another piece in except if it failed where it goes into the DP.
I haven't heard one way or the other as to having WG issues mounting it at the EGR site when you vent to the DP.

Well I think I'm gonna try to squeeze in the ported manifold while the cab is of an do up pipes and manifolds when I do the transmission.

Good idea, I had up pipes/wastegate installed while my trans was out. The installer said it was pretty easy that way

Ok looks like the plan for now is valve springs and pushrods. As elites 71mm

You definitely will be able to feel the difference and run cooler.
FYI. This spring I will be going back in for the valvetrain upgrade, WG, AD, and maybe a HP turbo upgrade...then if the funds ever come my way...fuel and a bigger BB atmo.
