Was reading around on the h&s forum and a lot of those guys said they are running Hd on no power setting (50hp gain) . People with experience towing is this the best tune to run? Looking for the safest most reliable tune without worrying about it blowing up or crazy boost numbers etc. It will be towing around 12k several times a week. Going to put the tuner on when we get some time to do everything else. Also I would like to be able to use the tow/haul mode and was reading something about the trans acts funny in certain shift schedule?

What we are putting on the truck (08 drw 4:10)
Egr block off plates
mini maxx
s&b intake
4 inch Turbo back straight piped
flo pro cac & elbow
Cts gauges

Looking for something I can load and not have to mess with it. The truck will never be raced or taken to the track strictly towing. Just updated tonight so it has the latest tunes on it.

Any input is appreciated

I tow in the mild setting with mine. I have the HD tunes as well. The EGT's are perfect, and I monitored boost and back pressure while hauling through the mountains, stayed about 1:1 the entire time. I could not be happier with the way the truck performed. I did bump it down to no power just to see, and I could tell a little power difference but no in EGT's or BP.

My tranny did perfect, it never missed a beat. I had the trans setting in SL1 early lock up high shift points while towing. It shifts into OD around 68, so the rpms stay up while you get moving. While towing through the mountains i was grossing around 23k. i towed our kabota m105s the other day, it weighs 8650 dry, so with atachments it was about 10k. Kept it in Mild and it never missed a beat. That was in normal shift point mode. I also kept the truck in tow haul the entire time, it shifted perfect. Just don't hit the breaks to hard in tow haul, when it sences that it gears the truck down, and if you hit em to hard it'll gear down a couple gears to aid in stopping. Scared me a little the first time it did it lol

I tow 15Kish all the time with the HD300. Can tow on hot but get better mileage in mild. I do have upgraded intercoolers on both of my 6.4's, but didn't have an egt problem towing before they installed.

I looked into the intercoolers but for what we want to do with the truck just the weight and towing I don't feel its really neccesary to do the intercooler, obviously cooler the better but I don't forded it getting to terribly hot. Until we learn more about the trucks and get one to play with LOL. And on a side note with the tunes I know its the right foot has a lot to do with it but I figured we are past that stage lol

When i was towing through the mountains grossing around 23k, The hottest I ever saw the truck get was 1010*, and that was going up a 5% grade for 7 miles. The Fancy Gap pass in virginia if your familiar with it. Had the cruis set at 75 and rolled with it. Like i said, I can't be happier with the way this truck tows

I always tow in the No Power setting and have never had any issues. Usually tow around 7-7 1/2 tons (trailer/ skid steer/ attachments) and crusie around 70, and as mentioned above even when pulling steep grades only see EGT's around 1100.

I allways towed on the bigest tune I had if you dont beat on it its no diferent than stock. In my mind. Then If you want to go quick you still can. But I cant stand getting stuck behind someone and not have the power to go around.

I tow with gearhead street file and max powers, 110's and dual pumps. I've never run less than a 300hp file and I tow 13k at times. Watch your gaugs and you'll be fine. I've been doing this with a few setups and I still have original heads, pistons and whatnot 100,000miles later.

Same here. Towed with spartan 275 & 310. Kem 345. And hd 300. Never seen any temps over 1100 driving normally. My buddy tows a 15, 000 pd tractor several times a week with his on the hd wild setting. Never had a minutes trouble.

I have always towed with the 250 tunes (usually on Mild). Do the 300 tunes run more timing than the 250s? Temps always stayed in check with them and usually I am loaded with 13k to 16k.

im going to go on the hd and run the mild setting and just leave it there for starters. still haven't even gotten anything on the truck yet, maybe at the end of this week could have some time for it, who knows.

really want this truck to last awhile until we can get find another good 08 drw with similar configuration as we have now possibly with a flat bed, since we got the truck its total night and day obviously to the 6.0's and 7.3's

ok saw that a lot of people prefer to run lower settings because of the smoke.

I believe Dustin and Haller did some dyno runs and found the lower settings made more power. I up to 4 on an old version (.32) and higher settings made more power (by seat of pants feel), but the smoke was horrible. These newer versions are much better (spool up is much quicker) on 0 and 1. Even on 0, the .40, .42, and .44 spool much better than any setting I ran on .32.

I expect it to be night and day difference between the stock truck we have now and a deleted tuned truck (which we know it will be) anyway so either way ill be happy lol
not to considered about the smoke as weve had 7.3's & 6.0's etc that smoked like crazy and could control it pretty well so not to concerned about the smoke

I have the 44 update on my Mini Max and it barely smokes when you floor from a stop I left the low boost fuel on 3 which is default from H&S and I'm very happy. I have a buddy with it set on 5 and he said it feels more responsive and doesnt smoke anything like it used to on the old updates.

doesn't the higher fuel setting make the egt's go up or no?
