rpm limiter

Sup guys had a little problem yesterday during a launch... since my truck is 2wd it wasn't a new surprise the truck would spin but when I did the rpms for a split second touched 4500rpm... now I know this aint good for a stock bottom with just pushrods and springs and a s472, but the truck runs fine... anyone know who makes MCC tunes with a rev limiter? Think matt at Gearhead can do it?

if anything, rpms are your friend with a stock bottom end.

the only concern with increase in rpm is the valve train...rods don't fail from being yanked apart at the top of the exhaust stroke...they are typically bent/fractured from too much torque (hp @ low rpm).

So basically its OK to see that high of RPM's? I know about all the valves open and smacking pistons and all that but I wasn't afraid of that... I would think to would cause either damage to the lifters or spin a bearing..

never seen nor heard of a spun bearing on these engine's that wasn't associated with fuel diluted engine oil...but we regularly install new lifters anytime we have approval from the customer.

the lifters themselves aren't the issue with regard to high rpm...it's the high rpm w/o appropriate valve train upgrades that can allow for PTV contact...that scenario will shock load the needle bearings and cause the lifter to fail.
