Requesting Opinions On This Truck Before I purchase

Guys,

I am very close to moving forward with the purchase of this truck. Before I go forth, I would like a second opinion from you, the experts. A second eye if you will to ease the mind for a big decision.

It is a 2008 CCSB, manual. Yes, a manual. I have always driven a manual and appreciate the direct involvement of driving one and as you guys probably already know, this is a rare configuration. In short, a CCSB manual is very appealing to me.

The jist of the mods are an SCT/Livewire tuner, AFE intake, leveling kit or lift (...owner does not know for sure), DPF delete, AMP Research steps, 35's, beadlock rims, rear headache rack, Navi and fender flares.

It has 141k on the clock and has no known issues. It comes with an EGR delete kit which has not yet been installed.

The body is clean aside from a few imperfections, as shown in the photos however is pretty perfect other than that. Clean title, two owner truck. It has been stored for the past year in a heated garage and kept up on fuel filter changes, oil etc. The ball joints have been replaced but not the tie rods. New shocks all around.

To me, the body as a whole needs a bit of a facelift which I would do down the road and the bench seat is not appealing, however, is something that I would replace eventually. In case you are wondering, the stick is wrapped with a grenade knob but would be returned to stock for delivery.

I like how it is setup and configured and think that it's a great platform to work with. The seller is asking $19k, or, $20K with the installation of a brand new Southbend clutch professionally installed.

Please let me know what you think before I move forward.

Agreed.

I'm located in Washington State where diesel truck prices have huge price inflations ([IE; it's not uncommon to see a second gen cummins or 7.3 .listed around $25k) and realistically would see this around $30k here.

It has already had the DPF deleted and comes with a EGR delete kit that would be installed down the road.

It is a originally a Texas truck where it spent most of its life until a year ago when the second owner had it shipped to Ohio where it is currently. It has had FluidFilm undercoating installed as well. Obviously I would be shipping this truck from out of state.

pretty cool/rare combo, but I'd rather have a fully loaded lariat or KR with an automatic for the same money

I hear you there.

I was actually looking for a Lariat with all the options but when this came along, I knew it was (or could) be the one.

As mentioned, I have always driven a manual and am quite partial to it and the fact this is a rare combo makes it that much more appealing including the tasteful mods it already has. Things like the cloth bench seat that aren't appealing give the opportunity to swap it out for leather racing seats. Something that I think would actually kind of go along with the tough theme this truck presents.

I'll tell you though, if there's one thing that I've learned from almost 6 months of research and watching the market for used diesel trucks is that you really have to pick and choose what is a sacrifice and what is a necessity.

I loved the 09 cclb 6.4 with manual that I had. I ran a valair ceramic dual disc, it drove great and pulled great. Had 52k when bought and 94k when sold. Kinda miss it but sure love the '10 reg cab I have now.

We need your prices here Lol. A loaded kr or lariat with same mileage here would be mid to upper 20s

Haha, No kidding. It sounds like you're in or around the NW too so you know exactly what I'm referring to.

Thanks guys.

This is kind of a random question all of the sudden but am I correct in presuming the engine braking should be quite a bit more substantial with the manual over the auto, correct?

Definitely, or better yet, the Harley grill.

check the normal things as well. Get an Oasis report on it, look for dried coolant on the degas bottle or on the firewall above the turbos. open the oil fill cap when the engine is running and see how much blowby there is.

FWIW, I drove my first 6sp 6.4 today...

nope nope nope nope nope...

I owned/drove nothing but standards in my cars and in my Dodge diesels, but a well-tuned Torqshift cured me of that affliction!

Where at in WA are you?

Nice looking truck. Even with shipping costs I'd bet you could turn around and flip it for a good $6-7k profit up here.
I say go for it.

You guys are going to think I'm nuts but I haven't actually bought this truck yet. At the time I came across it last month was also the beginning of another quarter of college and simply put, would not have been the practical decision at the time. Now that the end is in sight and will be graduating next month, something like this would be doable.

It turns out the truck is still for sale (perhaps it's calling my name?) and am seriously going in the direction of putting down an offer. I feel like there may be some wiggle room in price now that it's been on the market for some length of time; probably due to the fact it's less desirable to most being a standard trans which on the flip side makes it desirable to me.

Before I speak with the owner again, is there anything else that you guys suggest that I ask? In terms of maintenance, he has informed me that it's been religiously maintained with frequent fuel & oil filter changes, radiator power flushes also replaced a pinion seal and ball joints. It is deleted, SCT Livewire tuned and comes with an EGR delete kit as well but has not yet been installed.

I feel the truck is already nicely setup and would be an excellent starting platform to work with. Obviously it needs a much needed facelift but one of the things I enjoy most with any new to me vehicle is changing it suit.

Thanks again guys!

Requested an OASIS report and waiting on it as we speak. Will post up the results.

I pasted the VIN into Google just for the heck of it and what turned up was the Texas dealership the current owner purchased the truck from. Turns out the dealership still has all of their photos of the truck still accessible (...truck says sold on their site).

Looking at the difference in mileage, the current owner has only put about 10k on it since he's had it. The truck appears to look about the same as it does now aside from the in dash Nav unit, replacement of the tailigate bedliner cover, SCT tuner, intake, shocks and fender flares. I will admit, part of me has been considering a 6.7 but I still keep coming back to this one as it's the perfect configuration and color if I were to go with a 6 speed and probably not one that I would ever find again for a really long time.

With a Harley grill, headlights, some better wheels and leather buckets could turn it into a pretty cool truck.

Okay,

Here's the OASIS on it. If I'm reading the report correctly, it appears to have had some recalls & TSB's performed and the most prominent being some cooling system work due to a leak. Again if I'm reading it correctly, it sounds like it had the T-stats replaced, water pump and front cover which was damaged.

What do you all think based off this report?
