A close friend of mine that I work with rebuilt his 6.0 right about a year ago. Used mahle lifters and had one fail at about 5,000 miles.
One ear that holds the roller broke and took out the motor again.
Just throwing out some more first hand experience with those cracks.
I do quite a few 6.0/6.4 stud jobs on the said, every set ive taken off have cracks, some worse than others. Most time the shop I take them to install all pressed in seats to. Most times that cuts the cracks out.

Okay guys, so I did a head gasket job on a friends 6.0.
Truck received all the HPO updates and got a new HPOP. Still factory ICP and IPR.
Long story short the truck had longer than normal crank times and has now developed a hot no start. Air tested the HPO system and found the passenger side...

Those are a life saver, matco has them as well in a kit with about 10 different sizes. They work wonders on hydraulic lines that have been tightened a bit to much too lol
No issues without a ball valve. Wire the pump to run half speed. Run HEAVY gauge power wire I believe I ran 10 GA on my setup for the power supply. Use the factory power supply wire to power a separate relay for the fuelab pump.
Cat wouldn't have a 2 micron that small, you'd have to run the filters down on the frame as they wouldn't fit in the engine bay. I don't think cat even has a 2 micron anyway. All their common rail equipment runs 3 filters. One water separator then 2 fuel filters which i believe are a 4 micron...
