I own an early 2004, awesome truck treated me well sense I bought it used back in June. I know the common differences in these trucks vs late 04, 05, 06, and 07. My question is why are there two different numbers for injectors from Ford ford these trucks(03/early04) vs later model ones.
Next these trucks start completely different than the later model 6.0. 03/early04 roll into the start and come to life, while the later models fire right away. Does it have to do with the calibration or icp sensor location or something else?

any thoughts would be appreciated.

The rolling start is in the calibration I think. I installed an 06 engine in a 2003 truck and it still starts like a 2003.

I'm not sure what's different about the injectors.

Can't say either, but I am partial to the early models. IMO the early pumps and log style rails make the best and easier power. Yes they often roll into start, but I'd prefer that ad opposed to ramping up the ipr to get her to fire quicker... too often do 05 and up ramp the duty cycle and get stuck, then throw a ICP code and cackle high.. some of the fastest factory trucks I've worked on were all aluminum hpop truck..

I think your right with the calibration. now that I about it ive seen a customer truck come in with an 05+motor in a 03 truck. its started like an 03 but even odder.

I right now have an 05+ injector in #6 cylinder and power balance is perfect.

My 04.5 starts like this also. That being said with this new tsd spd tune on cold starts it really revs up while starting then once hot it rolls into the start.

I thought the rolling start was from having no check valves in the stand pipes... and/or slight HPO leak

Also known as a soft start. Where you are cranking and it just kinda starts. It doesn't crack off like later ones or gassers where it starts at about 1000 rpm then drops to normal idle.

My early 04 starts quick. Like already said....will jump to about 1000rpms quick then settle to about 650rpms at idle. My cousins 03 was the same way.

If my truck is cold is will start like an 05+ but once its up to operating temps will roll into the start.

My 03 starts like the newer trucks, I replaced the starter with a 6.4 starter and it spins a lot faster and the engine fires almost immediately. After replacing the starter I replaced all the injectors with 05+ injectors and that made no difference in starting, although it runs much better than the original 03's.
