Does anyone know if the e-lockers out of the 2011+ trucks can be removed and installed in the 05-07 axle by removing the carriers and swapping them. I can get one free, but need to install my non e-locker carrier in its place. Im not sure about physical diomensions, spline size, axle sizes, ext... or if they are still using the 10.25 in the newer trucks. Both trucks have the smae same gear ratio so i wont run into that problem. Any input is helpful, or a link to some info

So i have found out that in 99+ they went to the 10.5" sterling, so im still good in that aspect as i have 05 axles... one more piece of the puzzle

More peices to the puzzle...

All 10.5" are full floating with 35 spline axle shafts, most 10.25 are full floating with 35 spline axles shafts altho some simi floating with 31 spline shafts and c-clips do exist.

Ring and pinion gears are interchangeable between the two, even tho one is larger as long as they are changed as a pair they will bolt. The carriers are interchangeable on either the smaller ringset or the larger ring set.

Most parts between the two are interchangeable

The 10.5 uses a larger ring gear but smaller pinion bearing which all can be swapped to make a hybrid with the old parts in the new housing and shouldered bolts holding the smaller ring gear in for more strength.

And i know that the 10.5" were used from 99 to 11... not sure about 2012+.... more research needed

In 2011 and 2012 they still used sterling 10.5 axles in the SRW models.... BUT.... the 250 came with 35 spline shafts and the 350 came with 37 spline shafts. Not sure if this is true for the 99-09 or just 05-09 models. My axles came out of a 05 f250 and the 2012 truck i have my eye on is a 250 so regardless both should be 35 spline.

I have no facts, but have read that the axle shafts are larger on the 2011 and up trucks. It could just be the spline count difference on the 250 vs 350 you already stated.

2011-2012
35 spline shafts are 1.36"minor 1.50"major
37 spline shafts are 1.50" minor 1.57" major

I will look into the size of the 2005 shafts. Thanks
Even if they are i should be able to swap everything over, bearings, hubs, ect.... get a stronger axle shaft but now were talking a lot of work for a free locker. For that i will just put in a tru-trac

Lots of good info here thanks for posting. I had no idea they upgraded the srw axle shafts... Something I think they should have done.

Wonder how the new axles hold up sled pulling? Although I think ben and Jared were hurting pinions too.

Im in for more info for sure

Ok... so all i can find on 99-08 axle shafts are that the size at the spline is 1.50" i would assume that means that is the major size which would make them the same axle shaft in the 250s from 99-current.

Also found out that the pinion shaft in 10.25/10.5 are 31 spline. 2010.5 they were upgraded to 37 spline pinions and this is also when the transition occurred to upgrade the 350 axle shafts from 35 to 37 spline and that some 350s have the 35 spline, the ones with the upgraded GVW package but still a SRW has the 37 spline shafts

^^^ so a good rear to find for pulling if u dont want to to to a custom dana 80/110/135 or such is get a 2010.5+ f350 rear axle with the upgraded GVW

It looks like i can swap the e-locker carrier to my 05 axle without a problem... now to pull some covers and take some measurements

Im not sure what the break is.....i will look into it.

As for the larger pinion shafts in the 2010.5-2012 going from 31 spline to 37 spline. I wonder if this effected the size of the pinion gear or just the input spline on the yoke. If it changes the size of the pinion gear then that means i would have to swap the carrier as a set with the ring and pinion gears and again not worth the swap if i have to set up 2 rears to reinstall...

That's a huge jump in pinion size. I would imagine they prob just use a different bearing... But maybe the carrier is different not sure.

Im betting the break is 10k the 11.5k is an option
