Hey there everyone,
Getting ready for a road trip where I was going to be putting on some nice toys now this, go figure, day started off great. Totally waxed a dear in my tdi jetta doing 55-60 mph for starters.

and now after backing up my trailer next to my house, loaded, it don't want to go into gear in reverse. Sounds just like trying to put a manual tranny into gear without the clutch, hear gears a griding.
After messing with it for quite awhile it finally caught. Is this the end of this tranny or could something simple of happened.

:whs: I've never heard of that one before, I know when I lost reverse my tranny lasted about a week, but it would just rev really high and not move.

that's what mine did. it had no grinding. just revved and didn't move. then lost the tranny later that day.

Sent looking at my blown up 6.4

Sounds just like putting it in park when its still rolling.
Like wheel of fortune.
Going to check linkage tomorrow.

The worst part is the truck is loaded with head studs, rcd ported intake manifold, afe intercooler, towpower Plus chargers and a turbo back flo pro 5" exhaust that I just bought and was putting on this weekend. :wtf:

Yep, going to have a friend sit in the truck holding the break while I try to put in gear with pliers with the linkage off.
That should tell me if its the linkage or the tranny I would think.

Would you be able to do it with the truck off? If do then just engage the e-brake, disconnect the linkage and see if it will go into reverse

I can select reverse with the shifter. Something in the tranny isn't catching or hopefully the shifter or linkage just isn't engaging all the way.

Kinda sounds like maybe a solenoid issue? Check fluid?

Haven't gotten a chance to mess with it, still at work.
From what I'm gathering if its not the linkage or something outside the tranny then something in the reverse clutch has came apart.

Does a solenoid physically move something to engage reverse?
Once reverse is selected with the shifter what happens next in line.

Solenoids will apply the clutches. If they dont have pressure/fluid/travel to do so, then the clutch wont apply. Low reverse hub could be wrecked too, but usually that's a slow death.

You could also try and disconnecting the linkage and crawl under it to see if juggling it makes it slide into reverse. Probably not it but not too hard to check. Don't think there is a way to check the solenoids, usually just replace and hope it is it.

Not familiar with those trannies, soon will be, where is that solenoid.
