I'm wanting to build my truck up to 1000 TQ and roughly 550 HP with 190/30 injectors and kc stage 2 VGT turbo. I'm wondering how long have you guys had your stock transmission with a built 6.0? If you have done some things to the transmission what did you have done to it and the rough cost of it. Also I was thinking about the 6R140 and if its possible to bolt up the 6.0 because I believe the newer transmission is seeing close to those numbers in the newer trucks. Any info would be amazing.

Even if the 6r was possible I wouldn't bother..

A mild built 5r with gpz clutches, billet input, and good converter (PI, DPC, Suncoast) would hold up well with 550hp.

That's around a 5000 dollar build +/- depending on if things like solenoid and valve body are cleaned up, tested and reused or if brand new parts are required.

I had a similar setup on my personal truck with a stock trans for a couple years with no issue. I drove it pretty easy usually but did race every once in awhile and never had any troubles. It has more to do with how you drive and the tuning than anything. Also like said a basic competition build 5r110 would easily hold up to that.

Back when I had my 6.0, I was running 190/100's with a stock transmission and a 62/70 non-VGT turbo... It didn't last too long... but I beat on it pretty regularly with 4x4 launches at the track and just general getting on it to show off. As Rykan said, its all in how you drive and the tuning. After mine went out, I put a built Suncoast in it and loved it!

Too dependent on how you drive to say if a stocker will live or not, but if you drive it hard it will die.

If you can't afford one and drive easy you can make it live a long time.

thanks for the input guys. I really want to do the setup and I only get on it when its warmed up to temps and I don't tow anything yet and I don't plan on doing any track time or sled pulling. (YET!):naughty: I want to get this setup I just want to make sure my tranny wont take a complete dump once the setup is in.

I ran 175/75 and an older KC stage 3 turbo for about 1 year on my stock tranny. Dyno and street races put me about 580-600hp. It did great and never even had a 3-5 shift flair in it until one day I loaded up a new tune and beat on the truck before letting the tranny relearn. One bad shift and tranny was done.

We have lots of customers in the 550-600hp range and many of them have good luck and last for years. But there are some that blow up the tranny the first time they load up a heavy race tune and beat on the truck. It is a gamble IMO

I never beat on mine 'till it is warmed up. Honestly, with the kind of driving I do, I am just going to do a stocker when mine goes with a good converter and billet input shaft.

Im thinking of going with suncoast transmission torque converter and input shaft when the time comes and possibly one of their rebuild kits. what torque converter does everyone recommend?

Well if you do a suncoast trans I'm sure suncoast will want you to use their converter if you want them to honor their warranty. Nothing wrong with a suncoast converter IMO.

I've never heard about revmax. not saying im a transmission guru though either. anyone else have anything to add about these guys?

I didn't use them, but I was considering them because of their proximity to me and they were quick to answer my questions through email and over the phone
