Hey Guys,

I have taken a couple year hiatus from posting and participating in the power stroke forums. I decided that the truck would remain mostly stock after I bulletproofed it as we got a fifth wheel and I daily it and just wanted the reliability.

Stuff that was done in 2012 at 56K miles:
Head Studs, Stand pipes, dummy plugs, bullet proof egr cooler, oil feed and oil drain updates, cleaned turbo, head gaskets, bed plate reseal, heads were machined flat (no cracks). In 2013 the transmission was refreshed with PI converter. All of this was done at the dealer as my buddy was a service writer and used my gold warranty. 50 dollar deductible plus parts. Not bad.

Fast forward to 2015 at 99K miles:
First trip with fifth wheel the tow/haul light flashed the whole way. Turns out the PI converter sh!t the bed. So I put a stock converter back in, its been great since.

Tunes: WPE tow tune I run most of the time towing or not.

Fast forward to 2016 labor day at 115K miles I come home from towing our 11K+ lb fifth wheel and find this below (F*@%!!!!):

Yep cracked stock wheel. Not sure when it happened or how long I towed for like that. Ford says they are discontinued and a true legitimate one out of old stock was over 1300 bux. I see some online that claim to be 500 bux but I don't trust that is a brand new wheel as they are no where to be found according to my local dealer. So I decided it was time to search for new wheels all together. Also since the truck has become weathered over time I figured it was time to put the shelfs full of parts on it I have collected for the last 4 years.

The current plan:

How the poor tattered girl sits now:

1.) Since I tow the fifth wheel a lift was not an option as it would make the trailer nose high, no thanks! It will chuck like a bastard if I do that. SO after all week researching I decided a 20x9 with 0 offset on a 295/60r20 is the way I want to go for no rubbing with no lift (34x11.5). After reading questionable stuff on the cast chinese aftermarket wheels across most brands I decided I wanted a forged wheel if I could find one in my price range. Well I stumbled across some American Forged 20x9 0 offset wheels brand new in the box for $1900, offered the guy $1600, he accepted the rest is history, SOLD!!! Model is justice, pic below:

2.) My stock headlights have become weathered so years ago I picked up a set of harley lights from depot but with clear reflectors as I loved the look. And thanks to the gentleman at retro solutions I picked up some LED headlights and fog lights last year.

I also have some other parts not pictured to go in, mainly a set of power fold/power extend 2012 mirrors. And a gutted stock cat as I think mine is partially clogged. I will add to the thread with updates as I do things and see how bad everyone can pick me apart LOL

I also plan to clay bar and buff the whole truck. I have a couple spots the clear is going away, top of bumper below headlight, driver fender flare and driver roof moulding, I will have to figure out a way to rectify those areas for now.

Reserving this post for pics of the detailing.

So I have started making some progress. Exhaust ordered, I decided on flo pro 4" cat back and thank you to Big Time Kustomz for taking my late order and giving me a fair price. Tom is great if you need stuff. They try to be as competitive on price as they can and still make a buck. I paid about 20 bux more than ebay which I am fine with to help a community member :)

Next up - so LONG SUCKA!!!

In with the new - I bought some 08 power fold/power extend/heated mirrors but the harnesses were cut. So I had to extend the leads, I had an old harness laying around from my dakota so I tried to match the colors as best I could. I also purchase some 08 mirror connectors from mouser even though I could have used any connector out there.

Some photos of the progress on the passenger side. This is my first time doing these types of connectors, so it was a learning curve.

Trucks gonna look great with some new upgrades. You stole those wheels but im sure you already know that.

I hope so, I have to keep it for a while now that I just paid it off. Hopefully this freshens it up nicely for a few years :)

And I may or may not have stolen the wheels LOL

If you are putting 08 connectors on, they will not work. Connectors are different on the 6.0 bodies.

Yes I know, I have both male and female from mouser. I made the matching pair in the truck and on the mirrors.

Ok. We have just swapped the 6.0 connector onto the 08 mirrors when we have done them.

That would have been what I would have done but it doesnt work if you have the power fold/extend.

So its been a minute since I updated but I located some different switches for my mirror upgrade. I can happily report I have fully functioning power fold and extend mirrors.

I used an oem slider switch for the rear window and carefully cut it into my window switch bezel. Tight fit but looks great IMO. Close to OEM.

Here is the parts I used:

Inside the switch is a guide that needs to be shaved as it didnt match the one in the plug that I got. A box cutter and fixed in 10 seconds.

Window switch bezel dremeled out for the switch. I didnt want to take too much and it is a tight fit but it fits perfect.

And the finished product. Test everything it works so I will go back and tape everything up real nice and call this project done.

I added some smoke signals to the mirrors and took the amber ones out. I will post pics of the mirrors once I clean the truck up. Its terribly dirty from sitting idle during my wheel issue.

That looks nice.

I passed on a set of power fold mirrors because I couldn't think of a clean way to make it work. Glad to see someone come up with a good way.

Thanks guys. I am very happy with the outcome. I was new to terminating my own connectors, still not quite got the hang of it. Between that and trying to figure out things like the switch and adding the other wiring this project took me a long time! End result was worth it though :)

Wheels came!! These are new never mounted but the guy had them stored in original boxes that were caved in. Looked to have been moved around a bit and do have some wear marks/scratches. I started to polish them out best I could and used a sealer from chemical guys.

Anyway 2 wheels down 2 to go!!! Tires should be here Monday!!

Set it out next to truck
