Hey guys, we are looking for opinions on clutch set-ups for a deleted and tuned 6.4. Truck is a dd that pulls a trailer a couple times a month. The truck already has a dual disk in it ( not sure what one, it was installed by the previous owner ) But even on the mild h&s tune it will walk through the clutch if you try to get in a hurry. What has everybody used, how do you like it, how is it holding up?

I had a south bend dual disk rated at 850hp loved it.. Never slipped at all was a little noisy but I lived with it. If I was to do it again I would go with a Vilair very smooth and not near as loud.

The SDD3250 from southbend is perfect. Stock applying and holds up to 750hp.

You really can't beat it, we sell them constantly because of the stock like attributes.

Really I have had very good luck with the sb dual discs. Are you sure it has a dual disk? Because something is probably not right if it is slipping that easy. I bet it's got a sb single ceramic. They are very aggressive and grabby but still lack the force to hold a tuned 6.4's power capability.

I vote 3250 street dual disk or if you feeling froggy a 3600.

We sell and install these and have never had a 6.4 come back slipping ..... Ever.

I have the old version SB DD 3850. It is very loud and grabby but it has never slipped. It has over 50k miles and at least 15k has been when I am grossing 24 to 32k lbs.

Yeah and the 3850 is the "competition" clutch. The same as I have in the pulling truck. Not exactly the best street mannerisms. But for darn sure shouldn't slip!

But if you go to one of the smaller ones they seem to be pretty mild mannered.

We literally just pushed a truck out this week with a crate motor and a SB 3250. It is smooth as stock, pedal pressure with stock hydraulics is similar to stock, and custom tuning on an SCT cannot slip it.

I don't see a need for more than the 3250 street version unless you plan to do fuel or air modifications.

I wouldn't recommend anything less than a 3650 from south bend. I am currently running a 3850. Its a little tight for day to day driving, but i had no desire to keep replacing the clutch time and time again.

Spartan 310 Tune, no air or fuel upgrades.

I bought the truck used and it was already in it...agreed it is probably more than I need but my 5'4" 120 lb wife can drive it fine so I have to consider it at least slightly streetable. LOL

When was that 3250 purchased? Did you go to Southbend and ask questions? That is a 750hp rated clutch, so unless a ridiculous amount of miles were put on it....it shouldn't have worn like that.

How many miles were on it?

South bend helped me out a little with the rebuilding it to a 3850. It was purchased in Feb. 2011, went out May of 2011. 3850 was installed at that time. That 3850 had some issues and was replaced under warranty in May/June of 2012.

Truck was purchased 10-31-2010 with aprox. 35K on it. Truck currently has aprox. 58K now.

I would say there has got to be some other contributing factor. Have not had any problems with any SB dual dicks in a 6.4. He'll I leave the line @5500 rpms in my pull truck making over 1k hp at the crank and all I have is a 3850.

For a stock truck to do that either it isn't installed right, something's wrong with the truck/trans or the driver doesn't know how to use it properly. And that's not an opinion. A stock 6.4 doesn't just tear out 750hp dual disks for no reason.

I aint no expert but that sounds right to me. I can't imagine the kind of abuse it would take to tear one of these up.
