Lookin to put a 6.0l powerstroke BD inline exhaust brake on a dpf delete 6.4 powerstroke. First has anyone done this? Second would it work? The reason behind this is that the truck has a manual transmission and banks speed brake (the only exhaust brake on the market for the 6.4) doesn't work for the truck. Thanks!

I don't see why it wouldn't. Is it manually activated? If it doesn't need computer reference, its basically just a valve right?

Well I think I'm gonna go for it!! I'm just worried about the sensors in the exhaust pipe freaking out the pcm when I turn the exhaust brake on. Do dpf delete tunes turn off the sensors? If anone has any ideas on this project feel free to chime in and voice your opinion.

Excuse the stupidity. is there any downside to an exhaust brake

Hopefully someone with more expertise will chime in. I am interested in one also, but I am pretty sure you would have upgrade the valvetrain first. To the best of my knowledge, the downside is it puts quite a bit of backpressure on the exhaust valves which can lead to wear and if you are really unlucky, the exhaust valve with "float" if the valve springs aren't strong enough. Of course, valve float can lead to valve/piston contact (which is never good!!!!). On the 6.4, I don't know how much the factory valve springs are capable of holding so I can't say for certain if the valvetrain upgrade is definitely necessary.

Factory valve spring can be reliable up to 60 psi in constant use. I know more has been done but I don't know of its reliability. The valves also create a restriction in the exhaust when not in use. Something to be considered . Also if it is not the best idea to do through the vgt why do it in the exhaust? I have thought about this alot and from what I gained for deleting it from my 7.3. I don't see the benefits. I have alot better gearing than most for towing but i still have the original brakes and 120,000 miles.

I also would believe you will have a check engine light from the back pressure.

I had an exhaust brake on my 7.3 and it worked great and never had any issues.

Remember that the exhaust brake is post turbo....im not sure if it would put any more strain on the valvetrain than the exhaust backpressure of the turbo at Wide open throttle.

Also.....one nice thing about my exhaust brake is it made pre turbo exhaust leaks very easy to find :)

I am interested to see if this works, I would like one.
2-3 years ago when I was ordering tuning from Eric I asked him about this. He has a tow tune with exhaust brake for the 6.0 that I would not tow without. He told me that he could get it to work somewhat with the 6.4. I didnt ask too much because it was not available.

I'm interested for sure, I hope this works without the need for valve springs.

It would work with out the need for valve springs. I was just writing for what they were good for pressure wise. Banks has done it successfully with pulsing the vgt if i have read properly. I just dont think the real performance tuners care to put the money into little demand. I have heard they have researched and found premature turbo failure with just closing the vanes.
My feeling is for the lack of performance of the setup vs climbing the hill. We don't usually race for the slowest down. But i know it has its place.

Still no news on this? I am planning a 6.4 swap soon. I already have a pac-brake installed on my truck so I will let you know how this works when I am done. Looks like I will be able to keep my current exhaust and just buy a down pipe for the 6.4.
