Anybody do this before? Since all my key fobs are broke. I was looking at getting a 6.7 style key with the unlock/lock bottoms on the key itself. One thing I can't find a genuine key that doesn't have a PATS chip in it the truck is a XLT so no PATS aboard. PATS equipped blank runs $50-100 per key for a generic blank on the internet. Does ford have part numbers for blanks? I'm assuming a blank from a XL style truck would be alright as long as it has unlock/lock bottons.

I was wondering the same for my lariat

I heard if you get PATS blanks from the interwebs you can take the truck and keys to Ford/ Ford will cut the keys for X of money charge you X to program them for you once you got 2 programmed keys you can program more for free by your self and can have the keys cut at a hardware store etc.

I can find PATS blanks but no blanks without PATS that have the buttons on them.

just did this to my truck. the 4 button key will NOT work. the remote start system is different but the 3 button works just fine. got mine this week. ford part# 164-R8070

if you have 2 keys already its really easy to program without IDS. get your two original keys and your new key in your hand. get in the truck and put an old key in the ignition to run, wait for the pats light to go out(its the red light with a lock), once the light goes out, remove that key and flip the ignition to run with your other original key, once light goes out, put the new 3rd key in the ignition and go to run and wait for light to go out and the pats will be programmed for all 3. if you dont have 2 keys you need to do it using ford IDS. to program the key fob. unlock the doors and flip the ignition on and off 8 times ending in the run position, the locks will cycle and hit the lock button on each remote you have one at a time. once youve done all the remotes the locks will cycle again confirming the programming. and your done.

here is a pic of my key! no more key and seperate key fob!!!!

I kind of would like to do this, but I'm not sure if my remote start fob is factory or not, that's what has my lock/unlock function on it.

So I'd have to carry my fob anyway to utilize my remote start...

My 06 xlt has no chip. So in theory I can just get the key cut and the remote buttons programed like the standalone remote and all is good ?

I bought the key at ford and they cut it for me. Then I programmed it my self. I have ford ids as well if it didn't program I could do it through that as well.

To make this work on a 6.0 it's the same concept but you have to dremel the key shroud on the column. Since the new key handle is so big it won't slide all the way in unless you trim that plastic off around the ignition. Just make sure you keep the shaving from going into your lock cylinder

i bought a ford key of amazon for 5 or 6 dollars and ford key fob off amazon for 1.50 or 3.50 either way it was less then 10 dollars for me to set up a complete second key, my local hardware store cut the key for free because i'm always buying stuff there and my mechanic programmed it for free and my 6.4 is lariat. also for his 6.4 when he had it he programmed a "6.7" key for it, works perfect. so i'd guess i can buy one of those off amazon and program it myself or have him do it...
