Did you ever find out a way to identify the build date off the serial number?

I talked to the parts guy that I use at my local Ford dealer and he said that my engine is a 1995. What gave it away for me is the back pressure switch is inside at the engine valley and not in front of the engine.

I'm looking at buying a low mile OBS out of a van to replace the current leaking 96 in mine. According to the link above its a 95. Going to check with my dealer just to make sure.

Of all the engines I could have thrown in there I ended up finding the one with the casting flaw by the the rear oil cooler header that the original owner never got fixed under the recall :doh: The coolant leak is driving me nuts...want to make sure I don't end up with the same issue.
