Another Single Cab Short Bed Build

Just picked up a 1999.5 2wd 7.3 base model truck last weekend.

Planning on making it into a fun little truck to drive around town and just have fun with.

Should be picking up a short bed tomorrow and start chopping everything up this coming weekend.

I will try and take some pictures along the way for anyone curious.

Picked up a few parts today at the salvage. Got everything for $550 out the door!
08-10 console
Power and heated Excursion bucket seats
Sliding back glass
Short bed
Short bed fuel Tank with everything in it

Also grabbed a center console for a buddies f150 while I was there.

Not a fan of the Rhino Lined sides on the bed but for the price I can live with it.

I know! I put a 11-16 console in my 08 and that was a rough one to find a good deal on.

These came from Missouri but I live in Oklahoma. I know where you can get a pretty rough bed for $50 tho.

typically guys use a rear mount excursion tank, a fuel cell or a small tank out of an F150. i dont think there is the space to accommodate a short bed super duty tank.

Everything I've read they've swapped out the larger long bed fuel tank and put in a short bed. Now, the 4wd shorty's do have to use s full cell or different Tank for sure.

Yea 2wd you'll be good. The only problem I ran into mounting mine was the original tank strap had to be modified as the tank was larger around than My factory longbed one. You got a steal on those parts. The 08 console alone goes for that on ebay sometimes.

The rhino liner will come off. If you are planning to repaint the truck a wire wheel and a little time will take the rhino liner off. Wear a respirator or a mask causes its nasty.

Got a little work done on it this evening.
Pulled the fuel tank, bed, bench seat, exhaust, power washed it, and started drawing out and marking where to cut the frame for tomorrow.

This makes me want to get our 1 ton 2wd 5 speed back and do the same. Seems fairly straightforward how you're going about it. Plus I need something to keep me busy in the winter...

Made some more progress today.
Was able to get the frame shortened, squared, and welded. Had a buddy come by and weld it up for me with his pipeline rig. That thing isn't going anywhere now.

Also got the short bed fuel tank in but ran into a couple snags with that. The sending unit that came with it was all busted up and am not 100% how I want to reroute the fuel lines to the new location. That's one spot that there isn't much info on from others that have done this.

Swapped out the back glass and cleaned up the inside a little.

Finally just set the bed down on it just to see how it looks which was pretty good in my opinion! The bed isn't bolted down or squared up at all in the picture.

My buddies now 2017 King Ranch.
