Any reason to pick the 71 over the 72?

Going to change my LP turbo, was going to go with the 71 from Elite. Is there any reason not to go with the 72 instead? I'm staying with the stock fuel system for now. Going to have head studs and HD pistons too.

I would think at some point the bigger the turbo the less amount of time its going to last

However i also think that because they are so similarly sized it wont matter, and so far the testing seams to point at it being reliable

The turbos drive virtually the same. I put several thousand miles on both, and I couldn't tell a difference driving them as far as response.

There are 2 fundamental differences that favor the 72... Temps and noticeable power increase. The 72 is a towing monster.

By temps I'm taking that as lower EGTs with the 72? Stock fuel ok for the 72?
And price difference is what? 350$?

Is the 72 set up to gate between the stages? The Tow Powers, and 71 mm atmo are not. But the High Powers, or my old Tow Power Xs were set up to push he atmo harder. Just wondering if the 72 has the "spiggot" that will allow a little extra push. I would love to have the 72, if that were the case. Cant see using stock fuel, and wastegating to relieve back pressure, and just venting to the downpipe, wasting all that energy... I would want to put it to use, by pushing the atmo... AND relieving BP on the HP wheel.

Chris the turbine is small enough there is no real need

We set up tow powers with my harness and the low pressure made 34 psi with a total of 50 in the manifold.

The low pressure is doing pretty much all the work

gotcha. I am going off of my non vgt setup, not taking into account the vgt... I still cant wrap my head around gating to the DP, and wasting that energy... I assume you are doing this on stock fuel?

2 times I can think that you'd want to gate to the dp is if your atmosphere turbo is creating too much bp.

Also if you can burn all of your fuel at 60psi total boost, why push it to say 90psi total boost. Accept for the cool factor of being able to say you make 90 pounds of boost.

Yeah, I am just not at that point yet with stock fuel. and def not any EBP issues with 4.30 gears... 49 boost, 54 ebp up hill, with 17 K in tow... under 1200 egt... on a mild race tune... Spartan 275 EL...
