Anyone lose their key(s)

Were you able to get a locksmith to cut and reprogram a key or did you have to get it towed to the ford dealer?

Fwiw, $260 later a locksmith cut and programmed 2 keys on site

As a locksmith, I have cut keys for Ford cars at Ford dealers. LOL

well you understand what i was saying though, i was talking about ford parts dept can only cut a key for a 7 year or newer vehicle IIRC

I was agreeing with you. When their records don't go back that far they have to call me to make one without a code.

it is a programming thing. Can be done at the dealer if no key is avail, can be done in the ignition if there is one original key left.

locksmiths have multiple different machine options that can program all the chip keys. Only thing I couldn't program when I got out back in 2011 was the new European cars. You don't need keys to program more, you don't need the dealer software. And its usually cheaper and faster than a tow to the dealer and the time it takes them to get to it. Especially when they call out a locksmith to do it there anyway.
