working on installing a 38r and am debating on the backpressure valve. either deleat it or us it as an exhaust brake. Anyone have it set up as a brake and is it worth the trouble?

Mine's wired in as a brake, took a couple minutes and was super easy. Is it worth it? Not sure as i haven't even driven my truck that much since i did it. On some hills unloaded it'd hold me at 35(speed limit) when it used to accelerate. But if i had the turbo out it'd be getting deleted.

The general concensus is that if you aren't running some good stiff springs then it can be kinda dangerous.

No he means valve springs. High back pressure can float valves

i use mine as a brake ... works great

Is that just the pickup, or with a trailer also? I have a trailer tied onto mine most of the time, and have to do brakes about every 18 months. was just woundering if using it as an exhaust brake would help extend the brake life? Thanks for the input guys.

I gutted it, as stated above if you arent running stiffer valve springs you run the risk of valve float.
