Right now I have a GT4088R I plan to use as the high pressure turbo in my compound setup. Is there any advantage going to the GTX?

That is kinda what I was thinking. When looking at the maps the cast wheel seems to flow more down low where the GTX flows more up top which is worthless to me in a compound setup?

I hate trying to follow their naming, but isn't that an 88 compressor? Seems like a pretty big HP turbo.

For your application it's probably not worth it to spend the extra money on one..... But to say there is no difference is a little out there. They flow more than a regular wheel on a gtr charger. Obviously precision will test them and tell you what they want you to hear. Its like me saying all precision does is take Garrett chargers and slap their stuff on it, and grenade all the time, so they can't be better.

I think just the fact that you went with a ball bearing turbo will make you happy. I will end up changing mine in the future. Any reason you went with the 4088 instead of say the 3788. Smaller turbine for better spool as a high pressure turbo. I've heard the 4088 is a little laggy because of the larger exhaust wheel. If you really wanted to look at a gtx I'd look at a gtx3582. Its a 62.5mm charger. Flows the same amount as the 4088r, and due to its size and smaller exhaust wheel you're going to have wicked spool up. I'm just speaking from experience, and after running the 66 on the street for a bit it's not terrible, but I think there is a lot left on the table as far as spool up if I upgrade to a slightly smaller, higher quality charger with little to no effect on overall horsepower.

Less reliance on the gate to control backpressure. I did go with a small turbine housing (.85) though. The truck lives at or below sea level so I think the 4088 should be happy if not the smaller chargers will interchange.

Yea I hear ya.... with my gates completely shut my boost is like 2-4lbs higher than my ebp until about 40lbs of boost. At 40lbs it starts to creep up. Then at 65lbs of boost the boost stops climbing and the ebp pegged the 100lb gauge. So it's not that im relying on my gates to control back pressure all the time, or where my truck runs 90% of the time, but to aid in relieving pressure up top and driving the big turbo harder when I'm beating on it. I think that'll happen in any compound set up, the extent being based on the size of your small turbos turbine size and ar. I wouldn't be worried about relying on a gate as much as spool up. And I can say, and I spoke with Morgan and my builder quite a bit, and if I were to do it again I would have done a charger in the 60-63mm range with a smaller turbine to get more spool down low for a "street truck" . That being said, It's not hard at all to make my s366 spool, and it is still well mannered. It was a hazy pig at light throttle slowly getting up to speed (55-60mph) and light throttle cruising, for the first two revisions of tunes from Matt, because it makes no boost just cruising and at light throttle. Hop in my buddies Cummins with compounds and a 63mm Garrett ball bearing with a small turbine and tight housing, and it makes 10-15lbs at the same light throttle conditions.... I know they are two completely different trucks but it's just an example. Just trying to give you some first hand experience is all, if your building it as a street truck, at low elevation like myself.

I'm gonna test a gtx4088r on mine here shortly. Our camino is finally outta the shop so I should be able to get mine in and fitted in the next few weeks.
