The KN is fine if you were on paved roads all the time as this is not a stock replacement that has all the issues.

I also highly recommend the Donaldson filter in this situation as it offers some of the very best filtration and with that size turbo and power levels you are no where near its flow capacity at reasonable vacuum levels.

Shop around for a good price as some will charge double what can be found with a little looking.

I just wish they made a filters in a cone shape with media in the nose and a larger inlet. 6" would be great so you can go full size pipe on the mid sized turbos like the GT42s and like.

No it could be that they do perform that way. After all much of it is up to the way they are oiled so I can see it. My point was more to how oiled perf filters tend to work. Until you get into the ones with more layers etc there is IMO always going to be a trade off.

Its not the shape as that is actually done for a good reason as it allows more of the total surface area to be used more evenly than if its was just straight walled like the donaldson.

Ideally I would love a Donaldson but with the same surface area but in a cone shape with media in the end as well. Also be offered with anywhere from the 4" to a 6" inlet port opening. That IMO would be a hell of a filter for the 7.3 and many turbos.

I have run one without issue. But to be 100% honest I have not run it enough to say its OK with 100% confidence. I also would want to do some dirt roads. Now there 7 layer I would be feel good with. I am planning on using one as I am running the GT42 which is a 6" comp port and I do not want to cause the loses in spool up that come from reducing the intake to 4" They make one thats almost perfect the only thing I do not like is that to get the pg7 you can not get it with inverted top with media in it. Its has to be a closed top. But still you are looking at huge surface area and because of the cone shape you get more even flow over the whole filter instead of most going thru the lower 1/2 like you do with the Donaldson straight wall.

Its filter Part #: 72-90021

Flange: 6"

Flange lip: 1"

Base Diameter: 9"

Height: 9"

Top Diameter: 7"

Still for the money and awesome filter perf the Donaldson is really hard to beat. I just wish it came with a 6" opening. Bet I could mod one to make it happen though. I need to look at the larger ones they have as I have more room than most do in there as my batteries are going to the passenger side frame rail.
