cam?

Never really thought about adding one to my build until recently. how beneficial are they? worth doing? Ive read a few places installing a 6.0 cam will go right in with no other mods, and will allow engine to turn higher RPM's? Ive done a search on here, but nothing came up..

I have no direct experience with one on a diesel. But quite a few guys on here have one and love them. Its my impression that they get rid of some of the valve overlap and drive the turbo harder. But like i said i have no first hand experience!

There is literally almost no difference between the 6.0 and 6.4 cams. They all have nearly the same lift. The only one with a little difference was the 03 6.0 cam it has a little more duration than the rest. The new cam from ford is around $600. I would just spend the money for a stage 1 regrind like ones thatI or other vendors on here offer. Also another option is the new billet stage 1 that colt cams has. The new billets have no core charge and retain the full lobe size. I also offer these as do other colt dealers on here and they are only a little more than the regrinds.

6.0 & 6.4 cams are identical except for the gear on the end of it. I work at Navistar and I see them from raw stock to the finish machined product. And before anyone asks, NO I can't slip one out the door in my lunchbox.

apparently you fell asleep on cam day.

03 6.0= int lift .221/ exh lift .2296
08 6.4= int lift .229/ exh lift .2326


or you looked at bolth cams and said (yep they look the same)

All I know is, we make 1 cam now. It goes in both the 6.0 that we still run and the 6.4 that we still run. I'm not saying that they weren't different cams, I'm just saying that NOW they are the same since we only machine 1 cam.

The gear is the same too. At least for the pickup truck versions. I know that for a fact.

Well piss!!! I actually work in the tool room setting up all the tooling that we use here and across the street at the Big Bore plant. I just talked to the guys that work back there and that's where the gear difference came from. Hell, I need to go :axe: now.
