I'm trying to see if I have to have the outlet from the head to the top of the waterpump or if I can block them off. I have a hallowed out thermostat. Just wondering how the water pump flows where does it get coolant from.

From inside of the block right?

I thought so but the damn interwebs has me all messed up. Saw somewhere that the Water pump is fed by that upper line...

That is a exit port when the thermostat opens
