I have a 2008 6.4, was curious what the temperature threshold between coolant temp and oil temp should be. If coolant temp is a steady 194-195 where should oil temp be

Will it go into reduced power if tuned? I dont drive hard though, its at 102k so ill prolly have to do thermostats then. Gotta throw on a full egr delete with elbow here soon. Sittin waiting for me to install.

It hits 224* and doesnt budge, which is my only hesitation to it being a bad oil cooler, id think itd be not a constant temp if it was bad. But then again im no expert

my wasnt tuned at the time. but i was seeing the same temps you are. i would do the thermostats when you do the egr. it sucked putting the egrs back on.

my thermostats was shot i had rudys replace them and do their egr delete and after pulling at tractor a short distance my mini maxx when into defuel mode bc i got my set at 225 recommended by h&s bc ive heard from diesel specialist they do alot work on 6.4 220* maxx out on eot so if ur eot is that high i would put money on a bad oil cooler and if it is a bad cooler might as well bulletproof it bc the cab has to come off.

Who makes a bulletproof oil cooler for the 6.4? I can't find anything besides stock, and BPD only seems to make them for the 6.0 as well as the relocation kit.

Just so you guys are aware. rpm has a lot to do with your eot/ect. I have 4:30 gears and my temps are always 7-10deg apart at 2300rmp/70mph. Loaded doesnt change much but just a little hotter.

As far as what is normal operating temps for the eot/ect... They vary but I run 199ect vs 206eot (+90f ambient) all the time. Ford considers 220eot to be acceptable. Hell the fan doesn't kick in until 215eot.

The oil cooler is not a cab off repair either. It's in the front of the valley. The high pressure fuel pump is in the rear. If the hpfp can be replaced cab on (with a few swear words thrown in) the oil cooler should be no problem.

Oh ok. Not bad then i took the cab off my 04 myself and ive heard these are easier to lift it off of so if worse comes to worse i can fall back on that. But i was thinking by seeing where the cooler is i could do itwith the cab on

Mine is the same way. RPM for an extended period plays a huge roll, more so than load from what I have seen. Mine has been in the 230's pulling a steep hill with 18000# behind me, but cooled right back off after. My split can be as high as 15 or as low as 5. I dont really worry about as long as the coolant and oil temps go up and down together.

Well when the truck is warming up it can be as far apart as 50* but it constantly rises together , which is one thing that makes me think the thermostats are in need. And like i said it hits 224-225 and stays there, no higher, does drop down sometimes to like 218 or so when coasting down a hill or whatnot. ECT stays right at 194-195
