Craftsmen scan tool shuts truck off

I bought a craftsman scan tool an when i plug it in an it connects it kills my truck an says nothings detected? Tried it on my grandfathers duramax thinking maybe it doesn't work for diesel an worked fine. Anyone have any ideas?

Does it say it can work on your truck?

Whenever I do something through the OBD2 port, I usually hook up everything with the key off, then I turn the key on and connect. I use AE though. If it is trying to pull codes while your truck is running, that could shut it down too.

I dontt see anything thats says it cant work on my truck. I'm gonna try it on a 6.4 an 6.0 tomorrow an see what it des, there is no reason for me to keep it if it doesn't work on my truck. I guess ill read the book more an see what it says.

Thanks for your input guys i figured it out had to actually read the book (instead of look at the pictures).
