So, my friend with an 03 f250 ex-6.0, decided to put a 12v in its place. I told him to fix the 6.0 but alas he didn't listen and now he's working on working the bugs out of his 12v conversion. She starts and goes but it is having tranny issues. He is using the original automatic tranny via a destroked adapter. He appears to be having torque converter issues. Supposedly it locks and unlocks at random times. The tranny shifted fine before the conversion, and now it doesn't. It keeps throwing a code of p1744. He is running a SCT live wire to control the trans with innovative tuning I believe. I know I haven't given much info, but anybody have any ideas??

You dont really need to throw a pcs in if doing the conversion right. The sct with proper tuning will control the trans just fine. It sounds like he needs better trans tuning on the sct. We use Diesel Conversion Specialists and their tuning is spot on and they email you updates if its not right asap.

When I did my fummins I used a pcs and never had a single issue. Imo that's the best route with endless tuning capabilities To get it perfect.

I just purchased my Fummins. 2005 f350 with a 97 12v and 47re trans. Previous owner said they thad the 5r110 and pcs controller and just couldnt get it where they wanted it. the suncoast built 47re works like a dream. has adapter to factory transfer case.

I did one for a 12v and factory 6.0 charger. It seemed to work pretty good but since it uses a mechanical pedal the throttle cable adjustment is critical to have it shifting right.

Tell him to work on his tach..might be reading good in the dash, but have him look at it on a scanner..it has to have a rock solid tach..your on the right track with using the factory pcm..don't bother with the pcs.does great with other transmissions but fails with the 5r due to it being 100% electronic and not using the spring and ball type valve body..also need to hook up the proper sensors so trans knows when to shift

Thanks for your input. It did in fact have a sketchy tach. Turns out the shop that installed the sensor for the tach somehow damaged the sensor. Properly installed a good sensor and it now has a solid tach and a good functioning trans. All problems are gone. Thanks again.

Did you use the Ford factory crank sensor second time around or did you use an aftermarket like destroked or ford cummins
