Is a 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4 starter not the same? Seems like people were putting 6.0 starters on 7.3s.

I had a long conversation with Carson. The teeth were moved to eliminate the shim, his machinist moved ring gear wrong way. They are making me a new fly wheel.

This is a badass build! Love it. Good to see a new build on here finally!

Id throw a worked over p3000 at minimum on there. Fiar valley performance in Wisconsin is where we go for pulling parts when we had a 466 in my brothers tractor.

Rear mounts done and Trans support. Recycled the 6.4 engine mounts for the rear, think it turned out nice. I slotted the trans support toward the front 2.5 inches. I am on borderline of too far back. This allows me to slide forward until all is well and then weld rear mounts to frame.

I guess I'm ready to put cab on and see how fitment is. I am really glad I took the time to lower the engine core support and thankful that I had a 3" suspension lift already.

I found a place from a suggestion above that can give me a modded A-Pump with up to 450ccs. I like the a pump for a couple reasons. It will be better for low end fueling and not be a smoking pig. The gentler ramp rate of cam should be better for low rpm driving and towing. I would potentially have fueling for up to 700hp granted timing and air are in line. I have settled on the S360 .88 and S472 1.10 with the smaller turbine. This should give me good response, low rpm boost and good cool egts.

Later in life I could always swap to a big p-pump, S366/S475 and play. I don't anticipate a second mid-life crisis at this point. I want a nice running low if any smoke work truck without codes and drama.

I have work again this week and then another week to work on this. Hope they get me the correct flywheel by next Saturday. Then this thing can run.

Badass man! I know that website! Lol

Guys are amazing to deal with anf their turn around is unreal. Pulled injectors and pump after a pull Thursday night, sent them in friday. Had them back and installed for that Wednesdays pull..

Codes?? What codes? Lol.. its mechanical. Just have to watch the gauges.. lol

Another benefit of sticking with the A pump though is that if need be, you can throw a stocker on there to get you buy
Good point… can’t wait to see how much air your going to throw at it… the stock turbo is quickly overrun by the existing stock pump at full rack travel.

I'm going to run it on the S360 initially. I need the cab on and bugs out before I plumb the S472. I will get it in and check drive pressure as fuel is added.

I will be happy with 250-300ccs. May end up needing a gate on primary. From most of the 5.9 reading I have done, they don't gate this setup at less than 400hp. They claim it to be an excellent towing setup and that's what I want. I'm gonna take a guess that my power level goal will end up 40psi and maybe 50psi BP. Only time will tell. These heads flow much better than a cummins so that is hard to guess. I want excellent throttle response I've had enough big singles in my life. Lol I want to be able to tow at 1500rpm. Not have to turn 3k to stay cool.

Exactly...never a code again! I can't wait. Bet you I will have a wrench light on lol. That is gonna just be my mechanical indicator to remind me there's no damn computer lol.

Just stop right now factoring anything cummins into this setup. Unless you never plan to go over half throttle. You will need a gate if planning to tow with this truck. Period. Those A pumps move a ton of fuel. Yes i know you want to keep it timid but still. In the pulling world, those are 600-700hp capable pumps. And that is on a 3inch induced and exduced turbo. So 3 inch in 3 inch out..

Im going to keep this build tame said nobody ever... lmao.. once you feel the power potential. There's no turning back. Hahaha!

So worst case is I switch out the 360 and run the 472. Then what atmosphere? GT55R

Just gotta be compounds. Just cause.

I completely understand. Need it for spooling and top end. Smallest you can go for spooling but gate the *** out of it.

Probably go gt42 for a single. Little bigger than a 38r.

Making progress. Going to add 1.5" cab lift. Sucks it has to come off again, I am not going to install flywheel under there.

Nice progress!! How are you feeling about the build so far?

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the DT360 head flows better than the 6BT head. How much difference is there?

Overwhelmed. Ready to hear it run. I have wanted to do this for years. Actually bought this truck just for this project. Guy thought motor was blown, got 100k miles out of it and two free years as a bonus.

I have no numbers. Only from researching. I understand that the valves and ports are much bigger and that there is an advantage in the intake plenum.

I have also read that the 24v has more similar flow to the 360. 360 has substantially more flow than the 12v 5.9.

Got correct flywheel 1700. All installed by 1900. Ready to drop engine/Trans in morning and hook all this stuff up. With some luck will run tomorrow evening.

Drive shafts will be done Friday. Should be driving it this weekend.
