Eating Trannys

This issue all started when I put on this single, which was the problem at first, now it's something else. First the converter gave out, which I wasn't surprised. So then I got an RCD unit, and a week later the manual valve body siezed up due to the fluid being burnt. The trans was flushed when the new converter was installed though. I figured it was a pump or possible cracked case problem, so went with a new trans and converter. Less than 700mi after installing that one, something breaks while slowly turning a corner. My guess is the planetary, but haven't the shop hasn't got it apart yet, but when I pulled it I noticed the fluid was smoked again. Replaced it with another trans and converter. Now with 400mi on this one, it slipped a couple times last night, including when the converter locked. Then this morning it flared 2-3 and 3-4 at less than 50% throttle. Pulled the pan after work and found the fluid is black and burnt with metallic again. Each trans had different tuning. Stock trans with RCD was H&S/MCC, second was Gearhead Hybrid tune, third was Gearhead regular tune. With every trans swap the cooler was flushed and the last time it was flushed both ways. The only common part is the cooler besides the computer with all these trannys. Is the cooler shot? Or do I just have some really sh*t luck?

Did you say you are running a stock trans? If so that is the problem, these things can take a beating but aren't gonna hold up to big numbers. You need to get a built one with more clutch packs and different material than stock.

Sorry these are built trans billet input, low reverse and Alto clutches I believe. Where is the best place to pick a cooler up at? Sunrise? Any idea what the pressure should be at?

I just checked the pressure. Reverse at idle is 100psi and drive is 80psi. Driving around a bit it got around 160-175, but fluctuates a little when the converter locks. Anyone know what I should see for pressure?

R at idle should be 20psi more so that sounds right, for some reason I thought the numbers were 70/90 but I could be wrong.

Welcome to my world though, I'm having nothing but issues with my 5r.

Well I decided to drive it home with the coolers bypassed. The highest I could get it was 175-180. I don't know if that may be the way it was from the beginning or because it's F'd now.

3-4 shift is real bad. TC lock up is messy when in to it hard. I drove it some today and noticed when the TC locks the pressure bounces from 175 to 200-225.

These are all completely separate transmissions. Nothing was used from one to another. I'm going to keep the builder anonymous for now, I don't want to tarnish a shops reputation if it's not deserved.

It's your cooler bud. You'll never be able to flush all the debris out of it. Lol, ask me how I know. I've been through the same thing you're going through. Replace your cooler with your next transmission and if you're using the same converter, have it refreshed.

I know when my trans went and pushed metal everywhere, they recommended a new cooler which was installed.
