...are they really an 8mm socket? Looked up som directions tonight and checked my sockets...you guessed it...7mm, 9mm, but no 8mm. Looks like I'm not installing Mikes pretty plates tomorrow morning.
Dug around and finally located an 8mm socket in a set I bought at Target about 8 years ago because I was tool-less in my old pickup and had to change a battery.
Plates installed. Bolts came out very easily at 5,344 miles, but I can imagine them being stuck very well with 10-90k more.
