While we're on the subject of needing or not needing a wastegate for stock turbos and stock fuel is it any more prevalent to have wastegate on a manual truck such as mine?

you probably wouldnt have as much of a need.

a blow off valve would be in your favour tho due to the longer shift times.

No, The transmission type should not matter...Engine load remain's the same no matter which type you have.

I have a gear jammer and I would say if anything it makes the need less for a WG, not because of the tranny itself, but because you can control what gear you are in. Once you get watching your gauges, you will find as the RPM goes up so does the EBP. Also, like Sootie said, we cant just leave the pedal to floor and go, you gotta let off to shift. A BOV would be nice if there was a reliable one out there, but in case this is your first stick diesel, you will quickly learn just letting up on the gas right before you shift will control any compressor surge...turbo bark and you wont need a BOV.
