Well seeing as I have a 46x,xxx km PMR engine, I am preparing to need an engine soon.
I can find a forged rod motor around here for "cheap", so the real question is how long will it take, how hard will it be and will I need any special tools?
It will be me, my dad, and possibly two very experienced mechanics.
I really want to do a lot of this myself, so that's why I am asking!

Oh and we're swapping a dying 5.4 out of a 2008 F250 for a new 0 mile one, any tips on that too would be helpful!

Motor swap is pretty easy... A good long weekend for 3 guys is all it will take. No special tools beyond what is normally required to pull turbo, trans and such.

Pull the entire front end, bumper, grill, core support, everything. Then just walk it out.

Note the time stamps...

First one at 11am...

You can see the strap holding the trans up...

Thats how I did mine a couple of weeks ago. I did mine 100% by myself and it took me 4 days. I also added comp 910's, new oil pan, new uvch's and new injector o rings on all 8. Not to bad to do.

No need to pull the bumper and grill. Can come out easy without

Bumper and core support I am assuming?

Why not? Its only 8 little bolts and 4 larger one's. Then your not fighting it, the motor doesnt have to be 6 feet in the air...

I know when we pulled out a 6.0 a few months ago we took apart just the same amount as CSIPSD. To me it made the job a lot easier when we reassembled the engine. And did not worry about tearing up the grille, lights, or bumper.

Going to go down Joe's path when I swap mine in the next few months. Pull the whole front clip off. Being mine is all fresh paint to match stuff thats the last thing i want to do is scratch something.

If you have the luxury of an overhead crane, all you need to pull is core support and all coolers in the front, if youre using a small cherry picker, id say remove the grill and everything. Every motor swap ive done eith the exceptance of one, has been with an overhead crane. If youve done it a few times and have tools lined up and are mechanically inclined, you can pull a 7.3 or 6.0 motor in 3.5-4 hrs.
