I took my truck in to have it check out. Its been low on power. I was told the IRP valve is bad the turbo and the ficm checks out at 54.4v. has anyone had their ficm go bad and gain voltage? I no stock is 48v can they be reworked to more voltage?
Yes they can be set at 53 or 58volts... You have an upgraded or "repaired" ficm that has the higher voltage rating. Some say its better than 48 some say its not... Personally I see no difference with 48v to 58v.
Anyways- If your ficm is built for 58v I would think its faulty and needs replacement. 53v? its good, 48v? not possible to have 54.4v... Hope that helps
could it be a stock ficm and gain voltage? or would it have to start out at 58v? what would happen if I just ran it like this? thanks for all the help.
hmm I don't think the stock voltage can go up that's for sure- if it did you would see other problems elsewhere with the ficm possibly burning up etc etc.
I had one from a buddies truck that was bad... I took it in on core and gave him a good one. When I finally got around to testing his, I put it on my truck and hooked the voltage meter up... it was reading like 125V... It wouldn't buzz the injectors though... I never really did dig into that one, kind of made me nervous and I tossed it in the garage somewhere.
Side note, change the dummy plugs and stand pipes while you're in there. Preventive maintenance at an added $150 from MKM. Just thought if you can swing it.
