Shane I have no clue, just stating what was my experience. Mine only happened if I held it at that speed, accelerating it would never do it.

Nothing much beyond trucks with Air Dog's don't do it and trucks with stock low pressure fuel pumps do. Seems to be a trend. I discussed it with WoodBoy through text the other day. We both think it could be a possible lead.

My truck did it on stock fuel and it also did it after my build (twin K16s and AD 165) so this shoots down your theory. Surging ONLY happens with IDP tunes 3.01. Spartan tunes and Matts tunes I never had the surging.
I am running stock rails too.

Does anybody have the issue with the 3.03 idp tunes??

When I 1st got IDP tunes it would do it at 55ish but if I let up off the throttle and got back on again I could never duplicate IIRC.

I have 3.02 and no issues now but the 3.01 felt more powerful but I have no time slips or dyno runs to prove it.

But IIRC some guys w/ other tuners have experienced it as well. Maybe it might be safe to say it's more common w/ IDP?

I believe Jeff posted on PSN a few years ago where he was having issues but in the thread he attributed it to the ported rails.

The Xtreme X won't have any surge. Our emailed custom tunes won't surge.

If you run our heavy fueling programs, some trucks may exhibit some surging at part throttle(about 15%) with the converter locked. These tunes are/were designed for racing.

If you want the highest power tune with stock drivability, run the Xtreme X or have us email you a custom tune for your application.

That being said, those tunes that may exhibit some surge, will have the highest mileage. The increased mileage and throttle response are the same changes that cause some surging.

Again...we do have high power tunes that eliminate the surging 100%, which is the pre-programmed Xtreme X or our emailed Xtreme X, Xtreme Race, or Xtreme Street. It's not a problem to eliminate it, it's just a differnet style of tuning with different results at the track, on the rollers, and in the mileage numbers.

We give you the choice of the various versions on 3.03, so you can make your own decision on which tune you want to run.

Personally, our trucks run Xtreme X with firm shift early lock daily and Xtreme Race with firm shift early lock for racing.

Thanks!

If the surge isn't gonna mess anything up I'm not gonna worry to much about it. On my truck when it does it all I have to do is lift off and get back on it and everything is good to go. How much does the extreme x file cost?? I've been contemplating running it for awhile, heard several good things about it.

So the numbers are pretty close on who is having problems with IDP and who is not on stock pump.

I should have asked this in the original post, but I have found that it seems to be people with older Ford flashes and IDP tunes having the surging and the ones with newer flashes not having the surging. (Im assuming this has something to do with the older flashes fueling a little harder than the newer ones?) It would be nice for the IDP users to post their strategy (Engine P/N) and what they voted on (surging or no surging)

Ill give my input on the strategy thing, I had my truck updated to newest strategy from ford, no problems with any of the tunes when I got the 3.01. There was a problem with the new ford flash and sct not being caught up to the new parameters it was monitoring for oil level too high. I along with many others would get the wrench and oil level high code when running xrace at WOT. Sooooooo, I had my pcm/tcm flashed backwards to an older strategy and the FRP surging on the extreme street and extreme race began..... And now I am finding that people with the newer strategies are not having the problems and the older ones are. So maybe yall can find time when in your truck to look at your strategy and post it up

And thats why I deal w/ IDP. Eric returns countless emails from me and tweeks to my liking and takes the time to answer any questions I have.

Yes, Eric has sent all of my tunes, setup like the extreme x so I can drive them, and this week he is going to send me the normal emailed versions. This thread is definately not to bash IDP for anything, Just hopefully help resolve a situation

Well I'm plagued by the frp surging. Seems the only do it on e the truck is at operating temperature. I haven't had a chance to load my custom tune from idp up but on both x street, race, and my modified x street tune it surges.

Do you have dual pumps?
