6.4L injectors should be pretty hard to ruin by running out of fuel. They arent like 6.0L injectors with a piston that could slam down on an empty chamber. Current is run through them in one direction to expand a pack of piezo crystal discs, then to shut it off the current has to be reversed.

Glad its working now, probably just had #6 full of air after the rest were full of fuel again.

For the DIY guys, you could probably make the tools for bleeding the fuel system. All you need is a regular schraeder style fitting to go on the schrader valve with some clear hose and a shut off valve if you want to go that far. Thread it on the port on the fuel cooler, cycle the key until you don't see any air bubbles in the hose. Low pressure is bled. High side, you'll have to find a banjo bolt style fitting with a straight fitting on the other end. Basically on the return side at the fuel cooler (pump return) you take out the banjo fitting, thread this fitting in with some more clear hose on the end. You run the truck until there is no more air coming out. Done. Could probably make both tools under $50

Better yet would be don't run the truck out of fuel. That costs $0 in tools and zero frustration. Plus zero damage to your expensive fuel system!

Actually if you run a 6.4 system out of fuel, it will beat up the injectors. Hense why the 6.7's have a low pressure fuel switch that shuts the truck off when the low pressure drops too low. I think it has to have greater than 45 psi fuel pressure to close the switch contacts. 6.4's only run like 5 psi of low pressure fuel.

piezo wafers have nothing to do with preventing damage.. there is going to be damage to the injectors when running out of fuel. just as dirty or aireted fuel would.

From what i have gathered diesel has very little lubricity to it.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

It has less than it used to and not only that, the cetane is low at most stations as well.. I never fill up without adding 6-8oz's of Ford Cetane Performance Improver, it adds both cetane and lubricity..

I use stanadyne performance. Not only cause we use it at work, but I have seen it bring injectors back to life.

We have had quite a few customers who have had a truck sit for awhile and the injectors were sloppy. add this to the fuel and it brought them back to life.

I use it every other tank int he summer and every tank int he winter...
