True. But those are also more labor intensive. I'd be willing to bet that the cost of the skins along with the added charge for labor from the body shop would equal out about the same as a new bed.

This guy doesnt need to pay a body shop.

A rustfree shortbed is 1500-2000...an 11+ shortbed is 3500. Skins are under a grand shipped. An $8 spotweld bit is all you need to remove the old ones.

If you have to cut all the bed bolts and its bedlined, the time to do each is a wash.

My point was if a bed is good and has good crossmembers skins are a hell of a lot cheaper than a bed that still needs 2500 dollars worth of body and paint.

On the flip side of that coin. If you're going to all that trouble and work to do a nose conversion and full paint why not spring for a new bed so that it looks proper.

Plus his bed is in good shape he could have sold it for the same price as buying an 11-16 bed.

Thats not true in all parts of the country....

I can sell 99-07 beds in primer repaired or original paint as long as the bottom is rust free WITHOUT a tailgate for right under 2 grand.

A new takeoff shortbed is sniffing 4....

2800 for a short bed around here. 2300 for a long bed. I think that's without gate and lights.

Hows this thing running with the new changes?

It was running like a scalded dog. Loved it, drove it all the way back the 900 mile journey from TX to SC without an issue....

Then a week after I got home, developed a high pressure oil leak.

From what i saw on IG not good, looked like he had a bunch of issues with the work...

Not true, just a high pressure oil leak....that apparently no one can find lol

Lol people will never learn

Thought of you when I read that post you quoted.

Just read through IG though. Seems it's in the body shop. For a lift and wheels and tires that big she spins both rears. I don't thing there's any engine problems. Seems it's getting some body work done though.

Yeah it's goin to the bodyshop next. She gets downnnn tho for sure for her size! Thanks

Hopefully getting a newer bed to match the front end conversion. I can't for the life of me understand why people will dump 10s of thousands of dollars in a truck and not spend a lil bit extra and make it look right.

I've got more in wheels/tires than I do in paint/body. But define a "lil bit" lol. A new bed isn't exactly cheap. There were none around when I did the swap though.

I wish I knew why that bother you guys so much! The paint hides it very well to start with and you don't even notice it unless you know it's there or look straight at it. There's nothing wrong with that bed either so why waste the $1500+ on a new bed just so the curve matches. Then the cost of the paint work. All to replace a bed that there is nothing wrong with to start.

Yeah I don't get it either lol. I'm anal as ****, but it don't bother me that bad. If that's what people find wrong with it when they look though I'm ok with that.

Bed sides are for sure more labor intensive. I'd be better off finding a takeoff.

And let me say that I'm not putting him or the truck down. It's a nice truck and I think it's cool he did most of the work himself in his driveway.

Thanks man, and yes I did.

^^THIS. I've been trying to find someone to buy mine at the same time a new one pops up for cheap but no luck

I've been away for a while, but here's a few updates...

So yes, I got the truck back from PSE and it was awesome. Drove it all the way home without a problem, besides people asking me questions everywhere I stopped which I'm ok with :D

Then a weak later had to have it towed when it died on me... Turns out the truck has a high pressure oil leak somewhere. So I hit Scrapin the Coast with it (on a trailer), it will run and drive but once it gets warm enough, it'll die.

It's been at the shop since then. It had a leak in the high pressure oil rail... Got it back together, then one of the new injectors had a hung up spool valve... they're new and under warranty, so shipped all 8 off....waited, they got put back in yesterday & buttoned up. Truck is back running again..............but still has a damn leak somewhere

Oh, and while it was at Scrapin...... the guy who was pulling it on the trailer hit a ****in tree limb with it....busted my windshield and bent the fender and pushed it back into the door - that's why it needs bodywork

Check the nipples on the oil rails, they have an Oring that leaks.

depends how involved you wanna get......I run the Air dog 2 with the new pump, no issues, I run a mix of parts for my RR but anything we install on customer trucks is strictly diesel RR...great setup.
