Dude - going through the wiring diagrams and making it work shouldn't be that bad - get the full wiring diagrams and just start figuring out what to keep and what to to toss. Since you started with a running car it should be cake.

I wouldn't think that 4.6 would really need all that much wiring left to run.

the 4.6 is a modular motor, some are simpler than others. Mine being from a p71 is wired in both the engine harness... and the body harness along with the dash cluster. I am not saying that I can't do it.... but at the end of the day I think I would be happier with an IDI.... the 4.6 puts me in the "lightning" crowd.... somewhere that I do not want to be. An IDI swap would be very simple (especially because I am working with an open frame) and a year down the road the IDI would most likely still be running, whereas the 4.6 might be eating coil packs and shooting sparkplugs out of the heads. Input work vs. Output reward is what I am after.

Had a brief moment of good weather this morning, went ahead and took the coils out to see where it will sit at full drop.... It looks like I am not going to have to do very much body drop at all......

If I had the bed sitting square on the frame, it would be sitting on the ground.... but I need to do some more wheel well trimming to fit the tires.... the bottom line on the cab is the important thing to notice in this picture.

I believe 7.3 idi and 7.3 psd have the same bellhousing and trans are interchangeable

Having driven both and gathering parts. For a manual swap myself .... I dont think a zf6 is worth the extra work

Well, I just bought my third parts vehicle in order to finish my truck.... I am getting this 88 F-350 IDI zf-5 speed truck for the motor and trans....

The plan is to borrow a trailer and use this truck to take the project truck 2 hours north to a buddy's shop (to use forklifts and welders and torches and whatnot) and I figure we can get it 98% done in a weekend.
