Had studs and gaskets done on my truck. Got it back and 200 miles later its blowing coolant out of the degas bottle. The heads were resurfaced but not completely inspected. Mechanic suspects a cracked head. Any thoughts or suggestions on where to get heads if in fact that's what it is?

From ford wholesale they are 8xx, Probably 9-950ish regular price. The machine shop surfaced them without checking for cracks?

Egr delete was installed. No they had the truck for over a month and knew I was getting fed up with them so I think they rushed the machine shop and skipped that part.

No charge for anything unless it needs new heads. Still haven't heard anything but it'll be the last time my truck goes to this shop. They've really been dragging their feet. The truck was at the shop for 5 weeks the first time. Got it back for one day and its been gone again for almost 2 weeks. Really getting tired of driving this pos scion. Def feel like I gave up my man card anytime I'm in it :pointlaugh:

I just had my head gaskets and studs replaced, picked it up yesterday. They sent out the heads to be machined and had them back in two days. I wanna say they found a valve guide on the head that was damaged and fixed that too. If your ever in the southern cali area, check out diesel power house in norco. The tech's name is matt and will diagnose your truck for free.

Read somewhere else that high egt's will likely cause the heads to crack on the exhaust side and its somewhat a common problem on trucks running high hp tunes. Ive ran a mini max on hd300 for about 25000 miles now. I have the egt defuel at 1450 and it hits it from time to time. Found some built heads from elite diesel performance for $1825 + a $2000 core charge. They come built with all upgraded components that are supposed to handle the higher temps but im not looking forward to spending $3825 on top of the $3200 ive already paid for the stud/gasket job. Tossing around the idea of putting it back together, pulling all the extras off, and trading it in but i dont want to be that guy. Guess i need to cough up the money, fix it right, and drive it until the wheels fall off.

That has been my impression too. With that being said, hopefully yours aren't cracked. Make sure if you are going to use the originals that they are checked for cracks/magnafluxed.

With the amount of used heads that have been found with hair line cracks that are almost impossible to see, I just bought new heads from Ford when I built mine. Didn't want to have to go through this due to a machine shop not taking their time with them and checking them correctly.

On a side note, I got a set of 97k mile heads for sale if your interested. Haha, j/k man. Good luck and hope the shop stands behind their word.
